Walking 30:08 [2] 1.85 mi (16:19 / mi) +13m 15:58 / mi

Lunchtime walk. A bit chilly on the ears but nice weather for walking, especially once I got moving. Trails still a bit muddy but ventured off of the pavement a bit here and there. They were doing some maintenance on the big power generator(?) over by one building which was extremely loud, I should have avoided walking by it, but otherwise a nice half hour away from the desk and in the fresh air.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.8 mi (25:01 / mi)

Family walk to the mailbox. Super slow with a few stops for L. to get in and out of kinderpack (on my back) and to mail the letters. Time and distance approximate.

Jogging race 27:06 [5] 4.97 km (5:27 / km) +13m 5:23 / km
shoes: New Balance 860

Schenectady Firefighters Run 4 Your Life 5k at Central Park. I was hoping to break 29 minutes so this was a surprisingly fast result for me. Definitely pleased.

The run was nice, but otherwise kind of miserable weather. Cold, windy with snow flurries.

Congrats to MH (winner in her age group!), MI, RI, AP and ES.

Jogging warm up/down 3:00 [1]

Jogging a bit to warm up before the race.

Stretching 10:00 [2]

Post-race stretching - better late than never.

Walking 20:00 [1]

Easy walk with JO during lunch break, just around parking lot perimeters.

Walking 19:44 [2] 1.28 mi (15:25 / mi)

Thought I might run today but didn't have time, so a quick walk had to do. Kept a quick pace though. Guess I'll have 4 days off between my last run and the race on Saturday, since we won't be running tomorrow to avoid wearing ourselves out for the race.

Walking 29:20 [2] 1.83 mi (16:02 / mi) +16m 15:36 / mi

No running today as I had somewhere to be right after work and didn't want to go there sweaty and gross.

Jogging hills 26:09 [4] 2.54 mi (10:17 / mi) +52m 9:40 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

This felt hard for some reason. Whether the nasty cold + wind or the fact that I had a hard run two days before, not sure. Normally would have expected this to clock in at more like a 3 on the intensity scale. Oh well, miles under the belt.

Ran w/ MH, MI, ES. On the plus side, it was sunny!

Jogging tempo 29:29 [4] 3.18 mi (9:16 / mi) +14m 9:09 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Set out to run at a 9 minute mile pace for a while (a mile at least?) to see how it would go. Meant to ease into it but after going a bit faster than I intended for the first half mile picked it up more after that. Slowed down to closer to a 10 minute mile pace for another 1.1 or so to finish out a 5k distance. All was well overall, although I think I'll be lucky if I can do much better than this overall time for the race next weekend. Hoping to get a bit of help from adrenaline. And my right foot/ankle was hurting after I slowed down 2 miles in, seemed to be weird pain/numb feeling radiating out from the ganglion (?) cyst just above my right ankle. Hope that's not going to keep bothering me when I run.

Jogging hills 34:41 [4] 3.35 mi (10:21 / mi) +82m 9:37 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Running group. MI, AP, DD. DD hadn't run in a while and split off after a mile out to head back in. Rest of us stayed mostly together, I wasn't doing a great job of setting a pace as sometimes I got a bit spread out in front, but overall we ran well as a group. Colder than I thought it would feel but did OK just in shorts. Hoping that I can improve my pace to something like 9:30 for the race, seems like a lot but it should be a lot less hilly (and more adrenaline) so here's hoping. Even better would be to push it closer to 9:00 but that's a long shot I think. Base goal would be to do the race in 30 minutes which would already be a bit faster than any training runs I've done this year, I think.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Stretching and a little bit of walking to cool down.

Jogging hills 28:35 [3] 2.81 mi (10:10 / mi) +54m 9:36 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Big group on a cold and windy day - MI, MH, AP, ES and me. We ended up spreading out a bit, I got up front with MH and we kept a good pace (and really picked it up for the last mile or so). Did an extra parking lot loop at the end and I was pretty beat by the time we finished it. Good result for a fairly unpleasant weather day and a day when I woke up feeling stiff and sore for some reason (probably slept badly?).

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Nothing special.

Jogging hills 24:51 [3] 2.29 mi (10:51 / mi) +49m 10:10 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Running group with MI and ES today. First time out for E so we did a slightly shorter run, which suited me fine. Not feeling as sore as I thought I would from yesterday's biking, but I'm definitely feeling a bit low on energy.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Also did 30-60 seconds of walking after the jog to cool down.

Cycling hills 12:00 [3] 2.18 mi (5:30 / mi) +24m 5:19 / mi

Sunday morning we bundled up and biked a few miles to Blatnick Park (through the neighborhood and then to the bike path). I had the kids in tow. I'm fairly certain that our tires were woefully underinflated from the months sitting in the garage. And I have barely biked at all in the past decade and a half. So.. it was hard. Especially with the hills we have on that section of the bike path. But, getting there was a bit easier than getting home.. the only really wicked part was climbing the one steep hill to the traffic circle.

Cycling hills 21:11 [5] 2.18 mi (9:43 / mi) +59m 8:58 / mi

The way back. Just killer. Much more uphill, and the wind was in my face for most of the way. At times I was barely keeping the bike moving fast enough to avoid falling over. But we made it! Had to stop once to check on the squirts, and I think I started my timer early and stopped it late. But can't figure out the proper adjustments so I'm just leaving the total time as-is. Doesn't really matter anyway, it's slow no matter what :)

Jogging hills 33:58 [3] 3.16 mi (10:45 / mi) +81m 9:57 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Beautiful day for a run. A bit cold to start but just right to not overheat when working hard. Four of us out today - MH, MI, AP and me. Went for a 5k distance today, so just a bit beyond the big hill and then back down. AP took off for the last half mile or so and we all kept pace behind her, so the pace was quite uneven but felt good all around.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Post-run stretching, just the basics.

Jogging hills 33:32 [3] 3.12 mi (10:46 / mi) +77m 10:00 / mi

With MH and AP. Out to the big hill and back. So warm that I ran in shorts and short sleeves! A bit cold at first but it proved to be the right choice I think. Spring is coming..

Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Probably should have done more.

Jogging hills 27:52 [3] 2.54 mi (10:59 / mi) +49m 10:22 / mi

Running group (MI and AP). Temps above freezing - beautiful day! Otherwise I felt a bit low-energy but we did OK.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Post-run stretching downstairs and in cube.

Jogging 18:56 [3] 1.75 mi (10:48 / mi) +26m 10:20 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Still feeling sick so tried to take it easy. Ran with AP who is building back up after some time off. Still felt fairly wiped from this run but I think that's mostly just the effects of the virus.

Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Some sporadic stretching after the jog.

Walking 20:19 [2] 1.28 mi (15:51 / mi) +14m 15:20 / mi

Another bracing lunchtime walk. Chilly but not bad when you get moving. Still fighting off this illness but so far it hasn't gotten me too badly (here's hoping this is all it's got).

Walking 19:00 [2] 1.2 mi (15:49 / mi) +17m 15:09 / mi

A bit windy, so chilly on the face and hands. Otherwise a nice lunchtime walk during a too busy day. Feeling like I'm battling a virus, so I did this walk instead of running.

Jogging 41:24 [4] 4.03 mi (10:17 / mi) +64m 9:48 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Really cold out there, for some reason I thought it was a bit warmer. Longest run by more than a km that I have done in more than a year I think. Definitely took a lot out of me. Glad that I could keep a (fairly) consistent pace for the duration (when accounting for uphill vs. downhill).

Walking warm up/down 4:00 [2] 0.2 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 860

Just cooling down for a few minutes after my run. Started to get too cold, so jogged a bit towards the end and did some high knees and butt kicks.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Post-run stretching. The usual stuff.
