A little chilly and damp at the start but warmed up later. Ran very minimal without a pack. All my pockets were stuffed.

We got 2 maps at registration along with a clue sheet and punch card and would receive 5 more maps on course. Managing all these documents was the hardest part of the race.

I shot a bit high on the first control and then got my first map and I think made a poor route choice. Followed that up with a weak attack to next CP. As I attacked A I had to come over the large rocky knoll. Super slippery and foggy. It was hard to find where the control might be and worry about not falling. I pulled out all my maps so I could see the clue sheet and dropped my punch card. Ooops. I converted one of my maps into a new punch card.

I searched a little for A but given its difficulty, I was pretty pleased. As I approached M2 for my second map I blew right past it and searched up high for a bit before coming back down. At this point, I figured I was way behind the leaders but was ok to just keep chugging along especially since I had also lost my passport. I had no problem with the next group of controls and when I finished this group I found out I was only a few minutes behind the leader. I had two more clean sections and took the lead.

I had a poor attack of W (unmapped parallel feature, wouldn't be surprised if everybody made the same mistake) and ended up finding X first. Attacking X first would have been a legitimate route and saved a bunch of time.

Fitness wise felt strong especially since I was moving so slow for the first 1.5 hours.

I didn't drink or eat anything for the first 2.5 hours. Ran out of water on the last section. Was hoping to get water on the mountain but there wasn't anything to get. The other side was covered with water.
