Trail Running (Trail) 31:51 intensity: (36 @0) + (3:05 @1) + (16:46 @2) + (11:24 @3) 3.68 mi (8:39 / mi) +607ft 7:29 / mi
ahr:139 max:157 (injured) shoes: Asics 2110

Wanted to be sure to get in another run. My legs were weaker today with less climbing. Ground was very wet but it actually stopped raining while I ran with Baxter. This made things easier as I didn't have to dry him off afterwards.

Ran at Smartview which is down the street from the in-laws. It was nice to run this with my Garmin finally. My suspicions were confirmed that the loop is more than the advertised 2.6 miles.

I restarted my watch after the first long loop because I thought it would be better for mapping but as I left on the second loop I realized the reason I was going on the second loop was to map a trail I wasn't able to run on the first loop. Oh well.

Foot was not doing great. Not very painful but definitely uncomfortable. Look forward to taking some more time off this week and taking some measures to heel it before next weekend.

Trail Running (Trail) 10:01 intensity: (1 @0) + (3:05 @1) + (2:08 @2) + (4:47 @3) 1.06 mi (9:27 / mi) +347ft 7:13 / mi
ahr:139 max:155 (injured) shoes: Asics 2110

Second loop at Smartview. Started right after I finished the first loop.

Note

Trip down south wasn't as productive as I had hoped. I would have liked to get in a couple more hours but it certainly not a waste. Not much you can do about weather and time is always a factor. That is still more climbing than I am used to and should make a big difference in training. Need to find more opportunities to get this climbing in.

Started raining as we drove into Blacksburg. When I finally decided to run before riding because of the rain I realized I left all my clothes in Floyd which meant an hour drive each way to get them. As I drove back the sun came out. I was missing valuable training time. I rushed back as fast as possible.
1 PM

Trail Running (Trail) 2:14:38 intensity: (19 @0) + (9:29 @1) + (56:59 @2) + (1:00:03 @3) + (7:48 @4) 14.98 mi (8:59 / mi) +2788ft 7:38 / mi
ahr:144 max:163 shoes: Asics 2110

Finally got to start running with Baxter. Wanted to get him some exercise since he would be stuck in the car while riding and he doesn't particularly enjoy running in the rain. Plus I figured it would give me a chance to see the status of the trails with all the rain. They were not really rideable. A couple here and there but nothing really worth it.

We got in some good elevation and I ran down and up Old Farm which is a right of passage for VT runners. My legs definitely need to be stronger for the hills but they felt good when we weren't climbing. My pace was under 7min/mile a couple times after the 10 mile mark.

The sun ducked away as we started which was good to keep the temp down. About 90 minutes in we got some good rain which later stopped. About 10 minutes before the end of the run it got pitch BLACK. No rain until 5 minutes to go and it opened up just before we got to the parking lot. We rushed to the car and dried Baxter off to keep him warm.

My arch felt pretty good. No pain at all until about 5 miles in at which point it just felt a little sore. At about 12 miles it was hurting a little more. Wearing my 2110's definitely helped for more support. Definitely not my typical trail shoes especially given the wet conditions but worth the loss of traction as the eRides and Inov8's have less support.

I think the rest and tips will heal my arches and hopefully I won't have the problem again and if I do I should be better able to determine the cause.

Mountain Biking (Fireroad) 48:57 intensity: (2:14 @0) + (59 @1) + (18:39 @2) + (27:05 @3) 11.43 mi (14.0 mph) +745ft
ahr:142 max:154 shoes: Salsa Moto Rapido

Hung out in the car for the storm to pass. Don't mind riding in the rain but didn't want to start my ride in the storm.

Decided to just ride some dirt "roads" instead of the wet and muddy trails. Didn't have as much time as I had hoped either since I lost 2 hours driving to get my clothes.

During the storm I drove down the road a little to park on the fireroad. This was a fairly flat ride with a climb at the end. Pavement to pavement on the road that splits Gap and Brush.

Saw Chris P, an old biker friend from Blacksburg right after I turned around. It was nice to see a friendly face. They were out riding the road and got hit hard by the hail storm.
5 PM

Mountain Biking (4WD/Fireroad) 51:50 intensity: (32 @0) + (5:58 @1) + (29:08 @2) + (16:12 @3) 8.03 mi (9.3 mph) +773ft
ahr:138 max:152 shoes: Salsa Moto Rapido

Drove up the road to the top of Brush to ride the road along the ridge. Road from the pavement out to the top of 8 (or A) Track. This is a hillier and more technical road than the last. Although it was 4WD it was technical enough to at least get me out of the road mindset I have been in so much lately. It was much appreciated and enjoyed.

4WD was a little wet at times but certainly better than the single track.

Enjoyed the climbing although my legs had trouble and enjoyed the nice downhill at the end.
8 PM

Note

Feel bad for my MTB. It has been ridden 4 times this year and it has been wet and muddy each of those times. I am going to have to take better care of the 29er on the way.

Note
(rest day)

Ended up being a rest day. Was hoping to get in a short night run when we arrived in Floyd but we got in late, was tired and it was already raining.

Wait until tomorrow. Give my foot a little more rest.

Good news is my arch is feeling much better with the rest it has been getting. Found out I shouldn't have been walking around barefoot at all. First time I have had this pain so just learning about it.

Pushed a little harder this morning.

Thought I was going to break the 50 minute barrier but couldn't quite do it. Almost no stopped time. Hit some lights but was able to get through them anyway.

Legs a little weak. Didn't push the limit as hard as usual in the afternoon but kept the pace up.

Light rain/fog this morning. The weatherman cannot get it right this week. Every day he has been off and it is changing constantly. Last night, today was supposed to be clear. Not only did it rain this morning but now they are calling for more showers this afternoon. Sheesh.

Fast ride given my low effort.

First run without Baxter in a while. It was nice to be able to better focus on the run. This was straight from KTs work in McLean to our house. I think I am going to use this route as a TT speed test.
