Note
(injured)

Bumped my shin hopping a horse fence on campus on Thursday. Developed a large bump/swelling on Friday. It was fine during the race but is starting to cause discomfort.
11 AM

Hiking 55:24 [0] 2.7 mi (20:31 / mi) +596ft 16:58 / mi
shoes: Scott Kinabalu

Had to stay home with Nut in the AM so we went for a hike with the dogs. Cloudy, rainy weather. We went to the creek and back. Shuffled some to get back in time for nap. Was a good way to get the blood flowing after the race.

1 AM

Mountain Biking race 6:20:00 [4] 34.5 mi (5.4 mph) +4467ft
shoes: Pearl Izumi X Alp Enduro III

Bike from O-course to Trek.
This bike had a little less trail but the trail it did still have were some steep climbs. The bike started with a 1000ft climb that we were concerned about but was super steady and didn't even require the granny gear! That climb was supposed to continue with another 1000ft on trail but instead we road around to CP10 and then trekked up the last little bit to CP11 on an unmapped Strava trail.

We hike-a-biked up two climbs and got to bomb back down them :-) Felt like a true downhiller.

We later tried to take advantage of an unmapped trail we found on Strava but I didn't map it well enough and we encountered two options and neither made sense so we took the longer way around which added 2 miles plus the time spent exploring the 2 trails. Bummer.
3 AM

Trail Running race 1 [4] 1.9 mi (1 / mi) +581ft / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross Vario

Short hike in the middle of the bike to the top CP11, Sassafras Gap.
8 AM

Trail Running race 2:38:00 [4] 10.44 mi (15:08 / mi) +1812ft 13:00 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross Vario

Trek from the Fish Hatchery to the Finish. Took our Brats to go and started up the ridge. We were told CP23 wasn't set and we didn't need to get it but we wanted to experience the ridge anyway so hiked up to Chestnut Knob (disappointed there was no exposed view). Fast run from there back to the finish.

Event: Pisgah 26.2

11 AM

Adventure Racing race 23:43:00 [0] 116.12 mi (12:15 / mi) +15314ft 10:54 / mi

Pisgah 26.2 w/ Jon
Training race for Jon and I to get familiar with each other and for Jon to get his first race back in the bag. It was a success on all accounts. Race course was a blast and super challenging physically. Not a lot of difficult navigation but lots of trail nav. Course was heavy on biking and elevation.

Temps were pretty good and we stayed on top of hydration. So much water that we didn't need to carry more than 2 bottles the whole race. Jon was working off of one a lot of the time.

We missed the views but loved the rest of the scenery and the killer downhills. Jon was strong in his comeback despite holding back a bit.

We had a few small mental mistakes and a couple minor mechanicals that we worked through but otherwise a pretty flawless race.

Kept all TAs to 10min or less.

Road Running race 12:00 [4] 1.6 mi (7:30 / mi) +220ft 6:38 / mi

Prologue
Out and back on the road.

Paddling race 2:40:00 [4] 14.5 mi (5.4 mph)

Paddle down French Broad River in canoes. Windy river with quite a bit of downed trees and low spots but we managed to move swiftly. We worked real well together.
1 PM

Road Running race 6:00 [4] 0.7 mi (8:34 / mi)

Run back to the brewery from the takeout.
2 PM

Mountain Biking race 6:40:00 [4] 41.0 mi (6.2 mph) +6065ft
shoes: Pearl Izumi X Alp Enduro III

Monster bike ride. Mostly on singletrack with some FS road.

Rode to the forest. Climbed to Buckhorn Gap and Shooting Ridge. Then descended Cantrell Creek to CP8 which was moved 1 mile down the creek/trail so we rerouted around the bottom of the mountain instead of going over. Mistakenly started to take a closed trail back up so we had to double back a little to avoid the closure on Bradley Creek. I started to struggle on the climb back up to Yellow Gap so Jon took some of my gear. Grabbed CP13 off of Yellow Gap so we didn't have to do it after the long climb on the way back. Then descended to North Mills and short climb to the TA.

Our goal was to make it to the TA before dark. We underestimated the time but were happy to finish the trail riding in the daylight.

Was having trouble with my hub the whole climb to Buckhorn Gap. A broken spoke was keeping it from spinning freely. Had to pull it out to enable me to descend without pedaling.
9 PM

Orienteering race 4:30:00 [4] 12.48 mi (21:38 / mi) +2169ft 18:35 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross Vario

Pretty straight forward orienteering course. Mostly on trail up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and then back. Opted for a clockwise loop and then realized it wasn't wise to shwack up to 20 and we would have to do an out and back. Was bummed that I didn't realize that in planning but when we did the out and back we ended up having to climb farther for the actual punch so the out and back may have actually been the best option. Also mistimed the schwack back up to the TA from 17 making it a bit longer.

Paddling 1:08:24 [1] 5.0 mi (4.4 mph) +9ft
shoes: Perception Swifty

New @ Whitethorne 2.1ft
Much calmer water than the last time I was here. Paddled down river this time. Had to paddle through some floating grass at times and down one tiny ledge but otherwise smooth sailing and it looked as though I could have gone much further.
4 PM

Trail Running 43:58 [3] 6.21 mi (7:05 / mi) +230ft 6:51 / mi
shoes: Asics GT-2000 3

Quick run on campus. All fields. Legs felt good.

CBurg Commute++
Dropped the car off in CBurg and then rode back via Seneca Hollow. Light pack. Nice temps. I have climbed Seneca Hollow 3 times. It is a 10 min climb and all 3 climbs have been within a second of each other.

Got stopped at the bottom of Ellet for 3+ mins waiting for the train to pass.

Slept in a bit after another late night of crying.
4 PM

Commuting 47:10 [2] 14.24 mi (18.1 mph) +1250ft
shoes: Giro Rumble

Ride back to Cburg via Wayside to pick up the car. No pack. Nice temps again.

shoes: Perception Swifty

Pepper's Ferry @ 2.4ft

Think the dam released a lot last night bumping the water level up. And looks like they released a little more during my paddle. Paddle didn't bother tricep which is still just a little sore.
