NAOC/COC Sprint - F19-20E

Goals were to switch nav styles between the different terrain types, plan ahead and give’r. Buuuuttttt that only works when you can actually see the controls circles on the map. There were so many faint purple cut lines, cut control cirlcles, and crossing points that I couldn’t even see where my control was. And I’m not just saying this because I messed up a bunch.

Totally goofed #1 since I couldn’t see the circle. Then I tried to get back into it only to go from 5-7-6-7 since 6 was hardly noticeable as well. Shift in style to the blocked housing streets meant I could plan and push hard again but then was too low to 10.
No good AP to 11 but 12 and 13 were good! Then a large mistake to 14 and I just couldn’t find it in me to be focused or into the race at that point.
Disappointing.

NAOC Relay Leg 1

Nothing like a relay to make you run hard.
Speedy start (was totally faster than Anton) and I was off with the boys. Lots of twisty trail network and green forest made route choices interesting! I went around on a lot of routes because the woods were v tiring. 4-6 were in the woods outside of the biathlon ski trails and it was a big shift in navigation style. I was a re-entrant early to 4 and then again too early to 5. Was caught by Kendra and Tori here as we trudged up the wall covered in moss to 6. I got a bit ahead by the spectator loop but then almost missed the turn in the chute and Tori and I were neck in neck. It was time for the rocket blasters!
Made up roughly 2 mins in the last loop to hand off to Pia in 1st!

So happy for our 2nd place team overall despite the foot/ankle injuries we all suffered through!

Leg was very very sore after this so hardly a cool down.

NAOC Middle F19-20E

Slow and steady wins the race? Plan was to be in control the whole race and run clean. This meant having mental ‘flow’ but not physical flow. Every CP I stopped and made a plan and double checked my compass. And it worked!
Only issue was at 12 where I didn’t have a solid enough AP. Near issue at 3 where I was on one ridge too early but figured it out. Probably went too high going to 8 but oh well.
By 10 I was with Kendra and that was a great extra physical push since I was feeling more confident in the terrain by then.

Gorgeous finish line was a great cap to the race!

And I guess a personal WOC spot was good too :)

NAOC Long F19-20E

Nice and flat roundabout trail route to 1 to have some time to plan the next leg but then I royally goofed #2. Was much too high but then must have been right beside it. Tyra caught me at this point and guided me in. Then a long leg to #3 where I got off my compass heading to the road but then caught myself and then slow going into the control. Fun short and technical legs and then another longer leg to 6. Tried to cut off the twisty trail but almost didn’t catch it again.
Big mistake to #8 with Rachel where we were too early ... still confused about this one.
Then a flat and green compass leg to 9 where is drifted left. Should have followed mom ;)
Ending was nice and a race down the chute with Anvil... I won. Obvi.

Overall didn’t really succeed at following my goals today of double checking my compass and looking up. but was able to push hard on the running sections and grab a 2nd behind Siri who crushed it!
