Note
(rest day)

Nice sightseeing drive-around with a few short hikes. Ended the weekend off with a jump in Atlin Lake (just a touch colder than GBay) on Monday morning before heading back to Whitehorse.

In Atlin for the long weekend!
Attempted hike up Monarch Mountain but got up to my hips in snow just near the tree line ... didn’t think it would have been worth continuing. The way up was pretty steep though, and great views.

Theme of this ride was “don’t look down!”
Rode down past miles canyon and Canyon city to the Yukon river trail. One section became a black diamond trail and then blue again and that was a liiiittle too gnarly for an early season ride. About a tire and a half trail width and then a massive cliff on a windy day. Good AR hike a bike prep.
Otherwise, this ride was stellar. Trails a good amount of challenge and nice and dry. A few humbling climbs but views all around. Glad the wind was blowing me in towards the hill and not the other way, essentially ridge riding the whole way out!
Good day. Need more snacks next time.

Gonna be hard to split my time between O, MTB, and mountain running. Dang that’s so fun riding and I didn’t even get to the best stuff.
Route got detoured because of a mama bear with 3 cubs. Saw another (single) brown bear coming back on the same trail. It really didn’t care about me though.
Awesome to ride a little more out of my comfort zone, knowing the consequences of falling are soft squishy ground and not granite ;)
Loving it!

Evening B meet - short long distance style. Glad to have the practice on 1:15000.
Fighting with my compass off the start and doing some dumb things. Then finally got into it. Definitely lost time going to 5 where I should have taken the roundabout trail. But I figured it was a good opportunity to practice my route execution in this type of terrain.
A bit of a hesitation on 7 and then got pretty pooched from there and was moving pretty slowly.
Overall getting much more confident in this terrain!

Making sure flags were there before JR program. Body felt quite good today with no complaints besides heavy legs from strength just before, but hey. That’s the whole point.
