Started with too high a heart rate, suckered into unhelpful social orienteering, sloppy compass, poor route choice, lots of hesitation (as usual). Terrible "performance"...
But I still had FUN!! It was an adventure, after all. And a CHALLENGE! Orienteering is great like that.
Think I found a lifetime sport.
Ok, think of something I did well... Hmm...
Oh- once I realized my HR was crazy, I did keep it under control. And now that I review the map- I had a lot of decent route choices, but of course, the bad ones stand out! (I climbed a cliff, WTF?) I even chose trail over schwacking a few times, which may not have been the fastest route for a faster person (Eric Bone)- but it was the right route for me at the time.
How to improve:
-More armchair orienteering after workouts to improve route choice, decrease hesitation -Set a vibrating alarm for when my HR goes over X -Work on compass skills... somehow...
Oh- and my hip thing is still bothering me. I need to back off my running miles.
Picked up controls with my old roomie! He did the intermediate course, so it was a nice opportunity to take him to some advanced controls, and to chat too.
Thanks to my Garmin- I can now record "moving time" instead of elapsed time!
Ran to Seven Hills, picked up some new shoes (!), then trotted up to Discovery Park. 4 repeats on the stairs. Was trying to stay under 175, but kept hitting 185 on the last flight. I even hit 191 somewhere.
