One of my best runs of the season.
Left house at 5:27am and was running at Cow Creek Trailhead at 6:57am. Up the North Boundary Trail (which skirts the Rocky Mountain National Park / Comanche Peaks Wilderness border) to North Fork Trail, up that to Stormy Peaks Pass, then down to Pingree Park / the CSU research Station.... and back. Reached the car at 4:27pm.
I found a new favorite place to camp along the way.
Sun was warm and sky was clear all day. Barely saw a soul.
Ate: 1 PB & honey, 1 rice ball, 1 fruit squeeze, 1 pack orange crackers, 1 pack sesame crackers.
Drank: 4.5L.... could have had more. Dipped from the stream near my new favorite camping spot (twice). Untreated, as always...
New running pack! After 3 years, my beloved Osprey rev6 was falling apart. Bought the Scott Jurek ultimate direction and LOVED it. Much lighter weight, and my first time running with only 1.5L at a time. I got by, and appreciated the lighter load.
Lots of things in the air today - cessnas, grasshoppers, clark's nutcrackers, music....everything but me. Enough is enough - time to fly!
A spectacular day, topped by finding a very very rare lichen (legally collected in Comanche Peaks). Huge bowl of thai and a beer to follow.http://www.mapmyrun.com/workout/2425917614
(note to self for future use: the above plots only 30 miles, but extensive signage in both RMNP and Comanche Peaks shows the route is exactly 34.4 miles RT...)
