shoes: New Balance Zant Z4, size 9.5

trail/dirt track run in south boulder (dowdy draw area) with MA and berlin. we made another huge mistake, a la thailand, and ran on a very hot day without any water. we were both super parched about 1 mile before reaching car, so was berlin... made for a slow and rough 2nd half to the run.

my ankle is still very tender/sensitive. i basically walked any stretch that was rocky. but it's better than it was this time last week, to be sure....

2 loops around BVR. i tried to keep it as flat and smooth (dirt) as possible, which i think was a good idea. managed pretty well. got back to a truck that didn't start. starter gone bad, towed to coyote motors....

yesterday was my first flying xc overnight trip: andrew and i flew from boulder to valentine, nebraska, in 2hrs 50mins. WAY FASTER than 8 hrs on the ground driving! woke up in valentine national wildlife refuge to skies that were totally socked in.... not many birds, so we went for a slow jog down the most deserted dirt roads. we kept it slow and easy. terrific morning, terrific day. ended up seeing juvenile red-headed woodpeckers (!)... also black capped night herons and many others!

this was my first actual run in 3 weeks, since my very nasty ankle injury at the race. i'm about 70%... still not terrific, and still not running 'normal' (specifically, having to put lots of weight on outside of foot, at expense of inside weight).

but who cares. i made it 5 miles pre-dawn, albeit slowly, but with only a couple of ankle jams.

first yoga class in probably a month. my ankle has prevented me from going in the last 3 weeks, since my accident. this class kicked my ass. i couldn't do all the poses....esp chair pose...

woke up and planned to go to rec center for weights. no wallet, no cash, no cards. lost on trip somewhere? makes for a fun morning.

tried going for 1st run in 2.5 weeks instead, with some shitty shoes in my office. i managed close to 4 miles and not at all pain free. more or less ran on the outside of my left foot, taking care not to bend my toes upward in any manner. hurt. super shitty. but i guess it's better than nothing....

left work by 330 to cycle to longmont in attempt to (a) start dead bufflehead and (b) find missing wallet with all my belongings in it. failed at both.

rode onto hover and airport road and nelson. ran out of water then got a flat on nelson.

rode 6 miles on my rim until reaching the base of lefthand / greenbrier inn.

7 vehicles and 20 mins later, caught a ride with a very nice woman... back home... with broken bike and spirit. thank you devin, so much....

FAST and furious end of day road bike ride down the mtn and to chataqua, to meet my class for extra credit botany hike. had to stopover at herbarium to grab lock. barely made it in time. cycled back to herb before amy's, then back to the herb....

heavy pack - and very fast - pretty great exercise.
