GOALS - 3hr Savage adventure race.
Bethlehem - hard to pass this up being so close. It was fun (mostly) navigating through the area.

Leg One - kayak down Leigh river from sand island to Minsi trail bridge then up the canal. All for 4 of 36 points. This was tough and I made the decision to go for it feeling I could clear the entire course. Missed the first control along with everyone else in front of me. I slowed down and started looking sooner than others but still didn't see it. A several 100m portage to the boatable canal was tiring.

Leg Two - biking north to Illicks Mill dam. This was the most fun. reasonable terrain and easy to navigate. Two high value controls required crossing water. The first above the dam was up to my mid stomach. The second crossing south of the road was surprisingly deeper - up to my armpits. I took a reasonable route to the south side and chilled biking into the wind heading west on the sought side of the river.

Leg Three - Biking & foot. A horrible 1/2 mile+ jeep trail alternated between 1/2" mud, 6" mud, foot deep water holes, and lots of river rock. Flat, but slow and demanding. A fun control on an island about 50m out with fast running water knee deep. TA at the foot part was more secluded that I expected. I got there with 45 minutes left. I figured I could clear the 4 foot controls in 30 minutes and be back to finish in 15. The climb to F1 made me realize I may not have the energy to get back to finish on time. I opted to get the two outer controls (F2 & F3) as they were high value. My route back to TA was perfect and intersected F4 or I would have not looked for it further.
The misjudgment came getting back on the bike and loosing the trail east, pushing the bike 1/2+ mile through the woods.
I made it to the road 3hrs 2min into the race and still had to get to the north side of the river. I was debating bridge routes thinking of taking the hill-to-hill but the access ramp entry took me half way to Fahy Bridge. I used the pedestrian stairs to cut time and it put me back on sand island.
Very disappointed in the route from TA to the road but it was a fun event and I would do another in Bethlehem.
