Strength Training 35:00 [1]

Sunday Jan 30, 2011 #

XC skiing 48:00 [3]

Skating at Winding Trails. The trails haven't been groomed since yesterday, and the snow was all packed down, which made it fast, but also made my skis go sideways as well as forwards. Plus, every time I was gliding on one ski and there was a bump I almost fell over. Still, Boris said I looked really good today, and at the end, even a bit better than yesterday.

Running 22:00 [2]

Running around in the snow at Stratton Brook park, visiting some controls on an orienteering sprint course set by Peter Grollmann. Really fun, and tough!

XC skiing 1:20:00 intensity: (40:00 @2) + (40:00 @3)

Awesome time skating at Winding Trails. I really felt like I was gliding on the skis today, even on many of the uphills, and there was this fast-looking guy I managed to keep up with for about 30 seconds! :)

Strength Training 25:00 [1]

PT stuff, then some more stretches.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Note

Here are a couple of videos of me skiing at Lake Placid around Christmas:

And here is a video of me skiing today:

I'm definitely better now. The videos don't seem as different as I'd expected, but maybe that's just because today's video isn't really zoomed in.

Running 8:00 [3]

Running on the treadmill at Temple Physical Therapy. Felt really tired and hard to go uphill, but I think this was partly because it was 8AM...

Strength Training 40:00 [1]

Gym.

Running 10:00 [3]

No treadmills, and quads were tired, so I did a short warm-up.
3 minutes on the stepper, then 2.5 times the stairs. I managed to jog up the whole way from 1 to 8 (20 flights of stairs) the first time I did it. Times were:
1:20 (4-->8), 1:45, 1:52.

Strength Training 1:00:00 [1]

Some strength training and then lots of stretching.

I went to another PT guy today (Mike), this time at Temple Physical Therapy. I'm going to try and start strengthening my inner legs again, a process I started last winter but gradually gave up on as other things took priority.

Running 22:00 intensity: (13:00 @3) + (9:00 @4)
shoes: Asics Cumulus 11 (Nov 2009)

5 minutes on the treadmill at incline (boring), then stairs:
4-->8, then 1-->8 (times 1:56, 2:00, 1:58, 1:54). Managed to run up to floor 7 the first time.

Strength Training 10:00 [1]

Hamstrings, adductors, abductors. Didn't have more time because Boris was coming to pick me up at the gym, so workout was short.

Pole Dancing 35:00 [1]

My left elbow still hurts (on the inside) when I extend my arm and grab onto the pole.

Sunday Jan 23, 2011 #

XC skiing 1:00:00 [3]

Skiing at Fahnestock with Boris. Only fell after one downhill, and I was able to glide up many of the (gradual) uphills. :)

Thursday Jan 20, 2011 #

Running 17:00 [3]

7 minutes on the treadmill (incline around 9%), then 3.5x stairs (from 1-8A it took 2:02).

Tuesday Jan 18, 2011 #

Running 25:00 intensity: (17:00 @3) + (8:00 @4)

Several repeats (5, I think) of the stairs at Payne Whitney. Legs felt tired by the end, and it definitely got my heart rate up - good workout! (Time includes waiting for the elevator at the top and taking it, but since my HR was high that whole time, it counts.)

Strength Training 25:00 [1]

Stretching 10:00 [0]

Felt very flexible today right after doing the stairs - having properly warmed up legs helps a lot when trying to do splits.

Note

Climbing Everest is cheaper than I thought.
$30,500 for 68 days in Nepal, including (if things go well) a summit of Everest.

Hiking 50:00 [2]

Mobile-O. Boris led me around a 2.2 km course in deep snow, and it was very,*very* slow. I wish someone could have taken a video of me trying to go uphill (swim uphill, more like) in waist-deep powder.

Saturday Jan 15, 2011 #

XC skiing 40:00 [2]

Skiing at Winding Trails - felt really weak after feeling sick last night and not being able to eat much.

Wednesday Jan 12, 2011 #

Running 10:00 [3] 1.4 km (7:09 / km)

Incline treadmill in the hotel - didn't have a lot of time before dinner.

Saturday Jan 8, 2011 #

Running 10:30 [4]

Running with Boris around the Lomas De Volcan hotel property. The guidebook claimed there would be trails here, but there aren't. Instead, we ran up and down a steep hill where cows are sometimes kept. It was really soggy grass and there were many deep hoof prints - I kept expecting to twist an ankle. The last couple of days have been great - monkeys in the trees right outside our bungalow and iguanas resting on branches after the rain passed. Not so great - tarantula on the ceiling above our bed!

Running 10:00 [3] 1.2 km (8:20 / km)

Running on the treadmill at our hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica - at an incline.

A few laps around the field near East Rock, mostly snow-free.

Strength Training 40:00 [1]

Pole Dancing 50:00 [1]

Practiced in my 6 3/4 inch heels. A little awkward at first, but I got used to it. Video:

Running 10:30 [3] 1.17 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Cumulus 11 (Nov 2009)

Short jog on pavement near Kseniya's house. Got a side stitch almost immediately and right shin hurt afterward, but didn't feel as out of shape as I should, considering I haven't run in a year. Let's see if I can get back into it, and how long it will take me. My hope is that I can get to the point where I can do 3-4 hours of running a week, and then I'll happily stay at that level. I've given up my dreams of doing lots of long distance, because my left knee just can't take it - but being able to do some running is better than no running. I miss it.
