Running warm up/down 11:50 [2] 1.12 mi (10:34 / mi)
shoes: Green VJ Integrators

Warm-up for the relay. With large quantities of mud underfoot and sleet coming down, the pace was rather slow. I am still not feeling 100% (felt like walking after about nine minutes), but it's certainly better than I felt during the week of the VM and Måsen!

Orienteering 49:11 intensity: (10:00 @3) + (39:11 @4) 5.2 km (9:28 / km)
shoes: Green VJ Integrators

Ran the second leg in Rånässtafetten. Åsa had a decent run on the first leg, but finished behind the leading pack, so I was running on my own a lot. I had forgotten that my leg was unforked, so I was being very careful checking codes and turning the map over to read descriptions. This slowed me down a lot, but I was still doing fine and picked up about 8 places or so, before one of the controls in the end got me. This control wasn't in technical forest, it was just a rock at the edge of green right after crossing a road. Yet, the green patch looked smaller than I thought it should be, so I spent time checking to make sure I was in the right place while several girls all passed me. It would have helped if I'd remembered the course was unforked, because then I'd been paying more attention to what they were doing. Very disappointing - I lost about 5 minutes on that simple leg. Still, better to have been very careful and read the map myself than to have mispunched.

Orienteering 1:14:20 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (44:20 @3) + (10:00 @4) 6.21 km (11:58 / km)
shoes: Green VJ Integrators

Lännasprinten. Small zig to the first control and a bit uncertain to the second, but spiked #3 and #4 right on. Then #5 was totally awful and after that I just walked/jogged the rest of the course. #5 was the worst control for a lot of people: Mari Troeng found it after about 30 minutes, Bara took about 10, Sara said that despite very careful map contact, she still lost about 45 seconds searching for it. The problem was that the control was on a rock which happened to be hidden by a dense clump of trees on three sides and a hill on the fourth. To make matters worse, the area surrounding the rock was very vague, with few distint features and vegetation that could well have been mapped rough open as well as white. This all led to mass confusion. I'm disappointed in myself for not being able to handle it better, but at least it was a genuinely tricky control!

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Still sick, but getting better.

Strength Training 10:00 [1]

Pushups, dips, and some ankle stability.

Orienteering 56:58 [3] *** 6.88 km (8:17 / km)
17c shoes: Green VJ Integrators

OK Linne training on southern Lunsen. Not the nicest bit of Lunsen - lots of junky parts - but a big improvement over yesterday's miserable experience! I made only a few small mistakes, usually due to not being able to stay on a bearing because of dense woods, but overall felt really good about the navigation and relatively smooth as well. Quickroute. (Actual course distance was 6.1 km.)

Orienteering 52:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (32:00 @3) 5.3 km (9:49 / km)
shoes: Green VJ Integrators

OK Linne training on Ekebysjö. Atrocious weather - wet snow coming down all day, so the woods were very difficult to run through.

Running (treadmill) 20:00 [3] 3.09 km (6:28 / km) +250m 4:36 / km
shoes: Brooks 07

Treadmill running at the gym. Did not feel well - stomach unhappy, outsides of calves unhappy (because of the shoes), and very hot and sweaty inside the gym. But it was worth it anyway.

Strength Training 10:00 [1]

Core and ankle stability. I also attempted some pull-ups today. Could do three with palms facing me and one (just barely) with palms facing outward. Boris did nine of the first type... Maybe if I keep practicing, I'll get him.

Stretching 5:00 [0]

Strength Training 30:00 [1]

Various exercises (mostly core and upper body) with Boris at home. Feeling slightly better today.
