Sunday Jan 24

Orienteering 43:00 [3] 5.38 km (8:00 / km)

Did most of a red course with Boris at Ironwood. Knee hurt right from the start, but heel didn't bother me at all and it was fun.

Saturday Jan 23

Running 22:00 [3]

Easy running on trails, with lots of breaks to stretch.

Strength Training 34:00 [1]

Out on the sand after the running.

Thursday Jan 21

Strength Training 35:00 [1]

Strength Training 30:00 [1]

More strength training.

Note

Right heel feels slightly better today, but I can still feel it when standing around barefoot.

Wednesday Jan 20

Wall Climbing 20:00 [1]

Went climbing at Rocks and Ropes with Boris, Cristina, and Linda. Did a few 7's, made good progress on an inclined 8, and completed an 8- at the end (with a few breaks because my hands were so tired).

Note

Right heel hurt all day - guess 40 minutes of running without any arch support yesterday put it over the edge. I've had minor heel pain there before (notably, the first time I ran in Mudclaws, and also after doing calf raises), so it seems to be mild plantar fasciitis related to calf tightness. Fortunately, I can barely feel it if I walk in my comfy shoes with soft insoles, so this should not take too long to heal. Once that happens, I'll start wearing the Vibrams again, but take it much easier this time. The left foot is completely fine, but the right one, which is weaker, needs a slower approach.

Tuesday Jan 19

Running 54:00 [2] 7.7 km (7:01 / km)

Running around on sandy trails, and partly in terrain, testing out my new Vibram Five Finger shoes. This includes half an hour in the morning, then two more bouts of 12 minutes in the afternoon (first in the Vibram, then in sneakers). For the first half hour, the vibram felt absolutely great! Lightweight, grippy, and padded enough to protect me from sand and gravel. But the construction also has downsides - certain types of thorns can pass through the bottom of the shoe.

Monday Jan 18

Strength Training 20:00 [3]

Orienteering 34:24 [2] 5.98 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Asics Cumulus 11 (Nov 2009)

Easy training at University of Arizona campus, course designed by Boris. Fun to do this in the evening, but perhaps a bit too long (knee hurt for the second half).
