Ben Cruachan Munroes (4)

Awesome day out on the Ben Cruachan ridge with Sarah.

Managed to time the arrival to Loch Awe just right so that we were able to get the train one stop round to the Falls of Cruachan and cut out 5km of track running. Nice.

Was a long grind up to the top of Ben Cruachan through a real mix of terrains - one minute you felt like you were in the wild on the moor, then the next there's a JCB parked about 30m away. Above 800m all in cloud and summited Ben Cruachan. Then onto the main ridge which was very rough going, but Sarah coped reasonably well with only a handful of expletives. Got over the slabs of Cruachan fine, although I wouldn't want to do that in the wet and maybe it was a blessing we couldn't see where we would have slid off to.

Up to Stob Daimh fine and then the last two were a bit of slog. Knee was a bit sore from a few hours in and feeling it tonight. All over is aching from the weekend, especially calves and quads. Can't remember when I ached so much!

I think this is probably my favourite route of all the munroes that I've done so far, really varied good climbs and ridges. Will definitely have to come back and do it again when it's not all in mist.

Falkirk Parkrun. (Official time 18.37)

Pretty hilly course but enjoyable course, with a brutal second climb so pleased with the time overall. Knee much better than anticipated given how bad it felt thurs/fri. Two guys shot off the front so was fighting in a pack for the race, got clear on the last bit of the first climb, then just about resisted a late charge from one chap.

Would have lost a few seconds from not knowing the route.

Had a good/random chat with some people afterwards about their standing desks at work. Banter.

training fail last two days due to some very enjoyable 14 hour days, but freedom awaits. very tempting to stay in bed, but dragged myself out for a play on the track. Not much time available so did 6 x 400m at probably quite slow speed.... 88, 92, 91, 91, 92, 92 Average 91. appear to be slower than a few weeks ago doh
