Scottish Relays

Andy Llewellyn, Pete Molloy, Kris Jones. Spot the weakest link!

Quite excited for this beforehand given it's felt a long time since I've intended to be competitive in a relay or individual race. "Training camp" aka doing 3 training runs in the week before this went well and felt OK warming up.

Bit annoyed off the start where I had already lost 10 secs taking the wrong path but thankfully had the shorter gaffle to #1. At the start of the long leg to 3 was in the leading pack and I'd spotted a longer but smoother route left which I went for. Gooch cut off that way just before me so thought I would have company, he then took a slightly different path and I was all alone. A bit unnerving looking round with just me nailing it round the path at speeds I haven't attempted to run at for a few years! Bit panicked I'd stuffed it up but came into 3 about 15 secs down.

From then on it was just holding on as best as I could behind Will (well practiced at this from FVO night league this season) and others, with EUOC 1st team pulling away a bit on running speed. Will had got a bit ahead through the butterflies and after spectator, but then on the tricky downhill leg to c19 I was reasonably on line and saw EUOC and Will meandering in from the right. bingo!

was aspiring to drop less than 3 mins to EUOC, so was happy to come in a few seconds ahead (to the handover at least).

Pete and Kris did a great job to finish 2nd overall, a good team performance by EUOC. Days like this make we want to focus a bit more on orienteering, but we'll see how the achilles reacts in two days time...

had planned a nice plod in the kingdom somewhere but traffic on the bridge meant I opted for a Heriott Watt trundle. Just went with the flow and was lovely. my achilles was quite sore to start with though, felt a bit lumpy at the back.

this felt like a lot of hard work though on tired legs, who knows whether they will have recovered by Sunday...

pretty toasty.

Holiday time :-)

Polmaise Orienteering.

Proper long distance planning style with few controls and lots of route choice, really enjoyed it. Thought I needed a hard run pre the Scottish relays so went out hard, particularly with Jon and Ben setting off not too far ahead. Ended up overtaking them via a separate route rather than getting a tow.

Went for an explore of the rhodo jungle after 7 so lost a bit of time there, but otherwise reasonably clean.
