12 PM

Cycling 55:39 [3] 19.69 km (21.2 kph) +334m

Sheltered from the rain for as long as I could in the tent this AM. Something therapeutic about watching the riders on the 4G from the comfort of the tent...

Despite the heavy rain, wrapped up well so was fine when cycling, but soon chilled once I'd stopped for map faff. Was planning the route off googlemaps given no chance to buy a map, so had little idea of the elevation so was a pretty brutal route up and over the valleys.

Bit snarled up in Harrogate as you might expect.

So glad to find family and have a car to change into for a bit.

Cycling 1:28:20 [2] 38.63 km (26.2 kph) +84m

Back over to York. Feeling tired by the end and had a nice 30 mins to spare. Just gently moving along ticking the km off.

Much nicer than yesterday with a cross-tail (more cross) wind and hardly rained.

I'm sure the people on the train appreciated me turning it into a mini drying room

5 AM

Cycling 8:56 [3] 3.83 km (25.7 kph) +15m

Body and mind a bit shell shocked after just over 5 hours sleep. Pretty chilly at 6am!
12 PM

Cycling 1:43:38 [3] 36.48 km (21.1 kph) +205m

Over to Harrogate to watch the world cycling champs.

Not raining, but a stonking 15mph Westerly wind and a fully laden bike with camping kit made for pretty painful progress. All good fun though and had a few stops.

Whilst stopped I saw a group of men in orange jerseys come past into the wind... thought winner this is my wheel... jumped on the bike but they had a gap of about 30 metres, I closed full on sprinting to maybe 20m but elastic snapped straight away. I heard some of them had been speaking dutch when they passed, and then shortly after the Dutch team car passed, so I finally put 2 and 2 together.

Womens race was awesome watching in the fanzone, big screens, good atmosphere.

Sadly I knew that the wind would die overnight and not blow me back to York Sunday.
4 PM

Cycling 49:16 [2] 16.95 km (20.6 kph) +271m

Over to the campsite. So many hills!

Absolute toast by the end. Don't think I've cycled this far in a day in ages, and combined with the weight of camping kit and hills, made for a good full on day.

Evening spent eating and awaiting the impending rain...
