Addie and I ran Don Fish's 10k+ course on Gary Smith's map of the National Mall. The summer series event is tomorrow, but we wanted to run this morning because we're driving to the eclipse tomorrow.
We started at around 8 a.m., and it was definitely good to go early. The sun was already hot but there was a lot of shade on the course. And the big avenues were almost completely free of traffic until around 9. It took me right around an hour. My watch conked out so I don't know for sure, but it was 52 minutes as I was passing the Navy Memorial, with only a few controls to go. Then as I was leaving the Ellipse, I tried to run around a guy lining up his family for a photo, tripped on the edge of the path, fell on the paved part and skidded a couple of feet while the whole family looked on in horror. I got up running, with strawberries on hip, elbow, and hand.
Lots of joggers, good weather, not much vehicular traffic, and a nice course, except for crossing the ramps onto the 395 tunnel.
