Mid-Atlanic Champs, hosted by QOC at Seneca Creek State Park. We negotiated the use of the Smokey Glen Farms facilities and fields, and it was a very fine venue for this event. The classic race was an NRE. For the Mid-Atlantics, the top 5 M and F on each course scored points. In the afternoon was a club relay, with a handicap based on points, so the top 10 relay teams scored points.
After taking a shift at the starts, I ran Brown, and run I did. On the way to #1, I hit the fence pretty hard. I was running downhill and looking at the map, and I bounced off it like a trampoline. Nothing injured. A little time lost on #3, thought I was heading for the elevated field but got into the marsh to the west instead. On the next leg I didn't like the passage at the foot of the hill, so I went up to the field, ran right along the edge of the escarpment, then headed down into the flood plain and got the control easily. Between 8 and 9 I got tangled up in some barbed wire, stumbled and nearly fell, and gouged my leg as I was pulling out of it.
My only loss of map contact was on the way to #3, and I ran fast almost everywhere else, winning Brown by a large margin.
