New shoes! Gel Kayano 28, the old 27s are at 406 miles. They've messed with the midsole design this iteration. They're supposed to be smoother fore-to-aft and lighter weight, neither of which is obvious to me. I'm skeptical of their claim that the pronation control is just as good as the previous version. That medial post was pretty effective, and when Brooks removed it from the Adrenaline the shoe lost control.

Race for Our Kids 10k at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. This was the National Senior Games qualifier, but it was a pretty small turnout. Nice course, though, through Druid Hill Park, then out onto some city streets for 2 miles, back into the park for the last 2 miles. I felt really good for most of this race. I pulled ahead of the little group I was in at the start and stayed ahead. One young guy a little ways in front of me, and I started to reel him in after Mile 4 and got pretty close, but when we hit Mile 5 he opened it up again. That was the only part where it was hard for me to keep the pace up. Happy to see the Mile 6 marker, and cruised in to the finish in 45:14. I had expected to be in the 44s, so a little disappointing, but a good run anyway.

12th overall, second in 65-69, first loss since joining this age group. The winner ran 44:11. I beat that guy by 7 seconds in a 5-miler back in 2019.
