6 PM

running 1:01:12 [3] **** 10.02 km (6:06 / km) +326m 5:15 / km
shoes: Inov8 x-talon 190

Out to the waterfall at a bit of an effort (more segment chasing), super technical- so more about that then actually running hard. Then clockwise blue duiker route again and back to camp with a bit of an effort again.

Saturday Dec 9, 2017 #

running 1:06:05 [3] 10.01 km (6:36 / km) +489m 5:18 / km
shoes: Inov8 x-talon 190

Chilled clockwise loop of the blue duiker trail with Weiss, then along past the suspension bridges and up to the viewpoint on my own. Quick stop there to admire the sunset before heading back to camp.

6 PM

running 39:49 [3] 7.34 km (5:25 / km) +254m 4:37 / km
shoes: Inov8 x-talon 190

Staying at storms river for the next few days.

Went out to do the otter prologue route. Hoping to maybe steal a segment or two from Marc Lauenstein. Managed to take the wrong route the 1st time around, so had to restart again and was a bit over racing it by then. Still pushing pretty solidly though, so a bit bleak to be over a minute back. Will have to have another go later this week :)

Thursday Dec 7, 2017 #

running 23:52 [3] 5.01 km (4:46 / km) +80m 4:25 / km
(rest day) shoes: Inov8 x-talon 190

Giving the body a decent days rest after a lot of time spent on the legs. Got out for a short one on the same trail as yesterday once the temperature finally cooled down a bit.

Note

Epic time on the otter trail!!

Absolutely stunning coastline and indigenous forest+ some pretty cool people!

Definitely need to do it again soon and do some more exploring.

It also made me really keen to race it sometime soon (especially with it being part of the golden series now+ all the best in the world competing). Pretty intense route, with it being technical for at least 80% and constantly up/down, which I think could potentially suit me quite well.
8 AM

hiking 2:00:00 [2] 8.0 km (15:00 / km) +350m 12:18 / km
shoes: Inov8 race-ultra 270

Otter day 5

Some great views of dolphins and whales while we were walking above the cliffs
5 PM

running 30:50 [3] 6.17 km (5:00 / km) +100m 4:37 / km
shoes: Inov8 race-ultra 270

Staying just next to the bloukrans bridge for the night.

Headed out with Mike to try find some trails. Lucky enough to find a really cool forest trail :)

hiking 3:30:00 [2] 14.0 km (15:00 / km) +500m 12:44 / km
shoes: Inov8 race-ultra 270

Otter day 4

Early start to make sure we got to the bloukrans at low tide. Ended up being a very chilled crossing.
5 PM

running 1:00:39 [3] 10.08 km (6:01 / km) +400m 5:01 / km
shoes: Inov8 race-ultra 270

Out and back with Mike, Ben and Mason (for the first 3k) on day 5's route. Much less technical+ faster section of the trail.

With Mike for the first 5k. Wanted to get a longish one in, so headed out from the huts on day 4's route to go check out the bloukrans river mouth. Looking pretty scary at high tide!
