orienteering 1:10:00 [3] *** 8.5 km (8:14 / km) +300m 7:00 / km

Uaul Grond in Flims. Really cool area with some fairly hectic rock detail.

One of those days when I wonder why I don't just run :p

Just never really in control of my nav which led to 2 massive mistakes and a bunch of smaller ones. Never really far off the controls, just messing around nearby with no real plan.
4 PM

orienteering 50:00 [2] 5.0 km (10:00 / km) +150m 8:42 / km
14c shoes: Salomon Sense 6 SG #2

Control collecting. Got given 15 controls (+ some stakes) to collect, so was a bit over it by the end :p

running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:00 / km) +20m 4:53 / km
shoes: Salomon Sense 6 SG #2

Warm up before the tt (around the track) and then jog back to the train station (on the lake path) after the O

running race 9:44 [4] 3.0 km (3:15 / km)
shoes: Inov8 f-lite 195 black

Headed up to St Moritz to do my tt. Seems the track isn't for public use, but no-one around, so just pretended I belonged.

Rather slow, but I guess that's to be expected given the altitude (1800m), and very little speed work in the legs.

Dind't have my watch, so no idea of splits
5 PM

orienteering 1:20:00 [3] *** 9.0 km (8:53 / km) +400m 7:16 / km
20c shoes: Salomon Sense 6 SG #2

Did some o on the San gian/God Surlej maps.

Legs feeling like lead after the tt and a few sections that were quite slow underfoot, so going ratherrr slowwllyy.

orienteering 15:30 [3] *** 3.5 km (4:26 / km) +50m 4:08 / km
12c (rest day) shoes: Salomon Amphib

A few big days in the legs and although they're feeling pretty solid, I thought a rest day would probably be good.

Just went for a run around Scuol with the jwoc Sprint map and visited a few different controls. Definitely need to get in a bit more Sprint training!

orienteering 2:35:00 [3] 20.0 km (7:45 / km) +1100m 6:05 / km

Test running the Swiss O champs long distance course in Ftan.
Time+distance includes the jog up to the gondola, gondola to start, and from the finish into Ftan.

Really nice area with the classic alpine fields+open forests and some stunning views!

Been a while since I've run on 1:15000, so eyes took a little while to adjust :P

Never really pushing, but still a fairly decent effort most of the way. Just had to be a bit cautious on the steeper descents with the hand..

nav was okay. Scrappy in the circles as per usual, and missed a couple of bingoish controls slightly, but nothing big.

running 20:30 [2] 4.1 km (5:00 / km) +100m 4:27 / km
(rest day) shoes: Salomon Amphib

So turns out I went a bit late to get stitches. oops. So just wrapped up and have to avoid falling on it :p

Short one along the river to the 1st bridge, across and past the sports centre, onto the pradella track, to the bridge, then back home on the road.

Legs feeling surprisingly good!! :)

Forgot my watch at Nick's, so just a guess on time+back to the old post run route mapping.

running 5:30:00 [3] 34.0 km (9:42 / km) +3146m 6:38 / km
shoes: Salomon Sense 6 SG #2

Headed of to Brienz (via a night in Zuflingen at Nick's place) to go run the ridgeline between the Brienzer Rothorn and Interlaken.

Along with Nick, I also convinced Mike and Flo to come along (they may be regretting their decisions :p)

From the railway station, a nice 7ish km, 1700m climb up to the Rothorn on mostly singletracks and a bit of gravel. A fairly runnable and quite scenic route up.

Then it was on to the actual ridge. I hadn't done the best of map scouting before, so was kinda expecting it to be relatively flat.. I was a bit wrong :p some really nice technical and super stunning ridges which were going up and down a helluva lot (nothing massive, but a fair amount of 100ish m drops and climbs).

Also a couple of small snowfields to cross which was quite fun, but me being me, also went flying down a scree slope to the one snow field and managed to cut my hand open.. fun fun. Looks like my proud record of no stitches in 21.68 years has come to an end... :(

Managed to make use of Flo's unopened-for-3years, first aid kit and put some bandage+a sock over and it was good to go :p

A few nice stops at a number of the small peaks to catch the breath back, have some snacks and admire the views.

About half way along the ridge, Flo and Mike started taking a bit of strain, so they cut down a bit earlier while Nick and I carried onto Interlaken. Turned out to only be one more 300ish m climb and then all really nice+fairly runnable flat and down. Did carry on for quite a while though! (And not helped by us running out of water+food)

Nick also struggling a bit by the last hour or so, making the descent very chilled (though by that stage it may have been easier to go faster as my legs and feet were just a bit over it :p)

Eventually made it down to the train station just under 8 hours after we started and a bit under 6 hours of actual running/hiking/scrambling. A decent day out on some ridiculously cool ridges! :D

Now just to survive the 5 hour train ride back to Scuol+ my dislike for sharp things being put into my body...
