Note

So haven't really logged in a little while..

I'd been hoping last year that I could continue my running streak and just run the minimum 3km per day and the knee would sort itself out. Didn't quite happen like that and after Otter trail in October I decided to stop running and try sort it out. Since then I haven't run besides for 6 days over new years period (Big 5 O races), but I've still done a bunch of hiking and a couple weeks of cycling in December (cycle tour from East London to Plett).

The pain has never been really bad and it slowly been improving, but it just hasn't got completely sorted, so it's more about not trying to do more damage/prolonging it than the pain actually stopping me from doing things.

Recently had a change in the diagnosis to more of a patellofemoral (joint) issue than the original tendonitis and hopefully with some decent rehab I'll be back to running again in the next month or two.

So for the moment just trying to do strength, rehab and other stuff that doesn't aggravate the knee too much. Also have another two weeks of lockdown (and unknown after that) to get through, but I'm currently on a massive farm in the midlands with a big dam and more than enough space to do whatever, so that's really not much of a problem.

Will at some stage try update my log for some of the cool things in the last few months (otter trail, 2 weeks hiking in reunion, 2 week cycle tour, big 5 O, a couple witels trips, etc).

Paddling 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)

Borrowing Jodi's cousins K1 to get some form of exercise in (and get ready for Fish 2021 ;) ). My paddling experience has been predominantly in extremely stable plastic kayaks, so adjusting to this has been interesting.

Tested it out a couple days ago and fell about 10 times, but was slowly getting the hang of it. Thought I might as well just go for it today and go around the whole dam (though sticking fairly close to the shore). Made it around the first lap with only one bail (change of direction+ some slightly choppy water) and then made it around the 2nd lap with no issues.

Still super tense in the boat though and having to focus constantly on not overbalancing. Left leg was completely numb for the last 5 min of this (not comfortable enough to actually move it around (besides steering) while in the boat).

Nice sighting of a fish eagle :)

Paddling 15:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

On the paddle board. Half of it with the paddle and half with the arms.
