Running 1:15:12 [3]

Lakeland County Fair - 2nd (Race time - 50:41)

Route change from last year as the show field had changed. This meant less of a run out but more importantly less of a run back in. Set off following Jebby. Felt okay so stuck with him until it started to steepen and off he went. Chris Edis came up to me and we worked together for a bit until we hit the real steep stuff and I faded a little. Perhaps set off a little fast.. Chris never really got away and after I'd recovered I worked my way back to within 10s. Chris was running well, so well in fact that he didn't walk a single step?! Obviously it wasn't any faster to run but still seriously impressive!

Hit the top with Jebby easily 3/4 mins up and 15s behind Chris. Lee Proctor and another lad were maybe 45 down. Heard someone shout my name and looked up and saw SHUOC's finest, the Alex Moore, out for a walk. Last time out on this hill I hit the descent too hard and jellied my legs for long undulating run back so set off conservatively. Still caught Chris pretty quick as we criss-crossed on lines. Then he went off left and I stuck right. Got a little stuck in some crags but found a nice grassy re-entrant and hit the tourist path. Couldn't tell whether my line has been good or terrible but no sign of Chris along the path meant I'd probably got it right. Cruised in from here as I saw there was no one behind. Although took the wrong route into the finish meaning that a minute gap became 15s to Lee Proctor by the finish. Good job they weren't closer!

Happy with that. Enjoyed it from start to finish and felt a lot stronger going up hill than I have in a while. Still a long way to go.. Prize giving was a joke. Top 10 males in a field of 50 got prizes. As did Male V40, 50 and 60. Females (or 'lady runners' as the toff on commentary who'd been openly talking about the benefits of fox hunting, proclaimed) got one prize for first and that was it. They can't even use the normal excuse of not many women there because there were bloody loads - not that that's a reasonable excuse anyway!

Running 30:12 [4]

National Stone Skimming championships were on at Fell Foot park this morning which meant the park run course was all on undulating grass with plenty of corners. Phil Waite went charging off from the go and I had no plans to go with him. Think he's been low 15 this year so no point going with that. Kept a good pace throughout although got a bit frustrated with overtaking people as is always the case in parkruns. Finished in 18:01 which I think is pretty decent for the course. Phil did 16:37.
