Grasmere Guides - 11th

Legs feeling a bit tired beforehand but then they were last year and it didn't seem slow me down too much. Brutal climb which steepens as soon as you're out of the showfield. Tucked in behind Chris Edis for most of it. Hoped to push on when the path eased but Joe Mann, Vic, Darren Kay and Pez all came past. Hit the top chasing Chris Edis and knew Ted wasa just behind. Took a while to get past Chris but soon passed Joe, Pez, Vic and Darren. Got stuck behind Dan Howath of Keswick until just before the fence jump. Clambered over and ted vaulted straight past me! Tried to go with him but just didn't commit as much as I could have. Let him get a gap thinking he wouldn't have a sprint but I was wrong. Awesome race as always and great to dip under 15 mins. 45 secs down on last year but I'm very happy with that. Hitting form for the relays may still be on the cards...

Boozing at the cricket with Dad - got spanked by the Windies all day but had a great laugh sitting behind the 20 or so Windies fans having a brilliant bit of to and fro.

Three Shires reccie with Matt and Will Rigg. Fun day out in the hills. Got the quickest route up weaterlam sorted. Line down to Blea Tarn is an absolute mess. A lot of the path has slipped and it is way more technical than last year - gonna be a nightmare if it's wet. Feeling okay today, R quad/knee noticeable but not causing a problem. Might get a massage after grasmere

Had site visits in Coniston and Langdale so went for a blast up Lingmoor. It's the time of year when it's in full bloom carpeted in purple heather! Planned on one long rep followed by the steep side. Ran the first rep well but quads (R in particular) seized up after the final steep bit. Still managed 21:30 after crawling along the plateau to the summit. Then along to Side Pike and down to the road. Could tell my legs were trashed at the this point but set off on the second rep anyway. Only took my 3 mins to realise I was done. No worries, still a good workout. Need to sort this R quad out around the knee - it's a persistent problem and something that flares up sporadically. Although noticeably more at the moment.
