Cumbrian Traverse with Abdelnoor and Rook (dog). Epic route with perfect clear skies all the way. I was a bit nervous last night but actually buzzing from start to finish with the only low point between Old Man and Great Carrs where the wind was pretty brutal (-20 wind chill). Felt remarkably strong until about an hour from Keswick. Lots of fun was had today.

Red Screes and down Scandale from the rugby club. Felt strong on the climb and enjoyed it a lot. Managed to just about keep on the path but the 5m vis and rain were hampering progress slightly. Then it got very cold on the top and faffed trying to get kit on and map out. Fell down what must've been the same hole Fellbaum fell down when he broke his hand and then just about hit the wall where I wanted. Fairly sketchy in the wet on the bare rock so slowed a lot until I was down in the col. Then a nice long run back down the valley into Ambleside.

Giggleswick KWL - 2nd

2 lap XC race with a water crossing a couple of small hills and lots of mud, Sat in the pack for the first 600m behind Taddisson and Goldie with a few younger lads ahead. Then moved through and took the lead over the stream. Seemed to get a bit of a gap up the hill and when I got to the turn I was clear with another guy 10m back. Along the flat section I got reeled in and then we descended together to start the second lap. My plan was to attack on the hill again but as soon as we got there he went and I couldn't respond. Dug in and closed the gap by the top but he moved away along the flat section and by the descent he was too far gone.

Not my sort of race but felt fairly strong and happy with the result. The younger lad was only 16 although he is in the Eng XC team so I'll take that I guess. Looking forward to getting to some more hillier KWLs in the upcoming weeks.

Post-race jog with James Harris on a lovely hill opposite the course. Would've made a great route for the race...
