Carrock Fell Race - 5th

One race too many! I was lured to the race to try and win the overall weekend prize but my legs were bollocksed from yesterday so it wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences. I needed to finish within 40s of Josh Jardine.

Jebby ran the hill hard and got a massive gap. I summitted about 10secs behind Jardine with Noah Hurton and Josh hartley 20secs behind. I climbed terribly, legs burning from the off so was surprised still to be well positioned. There was then my worst nightmare. 2km of flat headwind boggy running. Noah went past and then Josh and I basically hung in as best I could. The gap opened as we reached High Pike and the descent was to runnable to make any inroads. Noah somehow caught Jebb on the descent which is pretty miraculous given that Jebby must’be had over 2mins...

1:10 behind Josh, damn!

Causey Pike - 3rd

Legs felt okay on the road so didn’t let the Keswick lads and Josh break away too far. Hit the steep stuff early on and I got into a good rhythm latching back on to the front pack of Kim C, Josh J, James Appleton, and John Battrick. Josh led the way and as we ground out a steady pace I still felt good. We got onto the twisty path up to the top and started to drop James A. We switched positions a few times as we neared the top of Rowling End. I just lost concentration slightly towards the top and before I knew it there was a 20m gap.

Sumitted and worked hard along the long flat/gradual up section before reeling in and passing Jardine. As we reached the bottom of the final steep section onto Causey James pulled alongside. We worked well together and I just about clung on to the top. Kim had a 30sec lead over John who was 30 ahead of us.

Tucked in behind James until the col and then moved away on the steep stuff knowing i’d need a gap for the long runnable section into the finish. Hit the path and worked hard. Couldn’t hear anyone behind but daren’t look. The gap stayed the same to John along the path but as soon as we went right down to the stream I gained on him. Pushed hard on my lower line that we’d reccied and got to about 10secs by the road. Leaped the cattle grip much to Phil Whinskills amusement but just didn’t have the legs to close any further and he held on on the road.

Really fun race, starting to feel fit again. Team prize for the boys in blue and green.
