Last day of the conference! Went to some sessions that were very different than my own work--the point of going to this conference, which is much broader than the one we go to in May! It was good, and I got a broader understanding of some work that's going on in the field.

Afterwards, got poutine and donuts and walked around in Stanley Park w my PI and some grad students in my department. Would've been a good opportunity to catch some pokemon/hatch some eggs if I'd had data in Canada!!!! (PI later let me use his data for Pokemon purposes while we were in the cab to the airport, but no matter how un-hierarchical our lab is, I still would've felt guilty using up all his data the entire afternoon.) We also walked by the bald eagle tree, but no bald eagles.

Also: left knee felt slightly sketchy at some points during the day. Doesn't seem like a kneecap thing--seems more like it may be from doing the speedskaters after I'd gone running in the cold. (Had a sharp pain while I did those that I forgot to log.)

At a conference called Psychonomics, and they organized a run called "Jogonomics". We even got light-up arm bands with the conference logo on them!!!! So fun!!!! Went with my 2 former labmates Samoni and Lisa, and I even ran into a PI whose lab I was in in undergrad! The only negative was that since I've only been in San Diego, I'd forgotten how much my knees don't like the cold. Would've worn another layer of tights if I was smart!

Vancouver is so pretty!!!!!! We got here last night, and conference doesn't start till 4pm today, so had a mini-vacation this morning. Designed my roller derby helmet that's going to be a Tyranitar (very excited!!!!), ran by the waterfront, caught up w my Ohio friends, and went and got fancy hot chocolate and sandwiches.

Run from home to Rose Canyon and ran way less than expected before deciding to turn back. Dying!!!!!!!! Calf muscles feel less tight when I'm moving though :)

Roller derby 45:00 [1]

Fun practice!!!!!! We played this game called Crazy 8's where everyone skates in a figure 8 and you get out if the front of the pack cuts you off before you cross the cone where they just came from. I love racing!!! Got more comfortable with my inside edges and realized I need to be better at bending my left knee on tight right turns. Also we played in 2 separate groups, the "Fast" group and the "Faster" group, and the losers from the "Faster" group ended up being in our group, and I didn't let them get me out before the time was up :) My legs were shaking when we were done! I think I'm not used to having to get that low around corners, bc I'm not usually going very fast during normal practice.

Also did transitions while skating for the first time. Yay!!!!

Glad I went today even though I was tired, bc I'll be in Vancouver the rest of this week.
