Note
rhr:45 slept:7.6 (rest day)

Woke up, and hip was still pretty swollen. Iced again a few times and was able to get into student health to see a nurse practitioner. As expected, she said not to fall on it again, so I thought maybe I'd go to practice and do non-contact things. But then on the bus on the way to practice, I was noticing how much it hurt to just sit, and also realized how much I fall even when I'm not doing contact things. So decided not to practice after all, or even put on skates. Bummer, but probably better to be safe...

Then came home and probably could've gone on a run, but instead iced and ate cheesy garlic bread and now catching up on Jane The Virgin.

The good news from today is I made the roster for C-Squads (most major event of the season), which made it more upsetting to not be able to be excited for practice, but hip should be better by then if I don't screw it up, so also extra motivation to not re-injure it (if I'm being logical here). Also, the good news is that at least I can run, so I won't go crazy :)

Roller derby 1:00:00 intensity: (15:00 @0) + (20:00 @1) + (25:00 @2)

Super-fun endurance workout at the beginning of practice :D Pretty much any endurance that involves laps also challenges my balance/skating ability, but I got into the mindset of going fast when I was being a jammer last night, so was fun to work on the same thing today.

Also worked on some strategy that came up from questions I asked in the group after the scrimmage yesterday, so that was fun/useful.

Did have a couple hard falls on my right hip, and this time it started swelling/hurting at practice, and I started icing when I got home.

Note

Will log more later but wanted to make a few notes so I don't forget:

- Saturday, morning jog & skate
- evening, quick off-skates warmup, jammed maybe like 6-8 times in fresh meat scrimmage (30 min halves instead of 20), knowledgable people on bench, seeing other team's style of game play, toe stop incident, strategy learning.

Roller derby 30:00 [1]

Fresh Meat scrimmage!!!! Maybe write more later. Was very fun.

rhr:51 slept:6.75 (rest day)

Fitness tracker agrees w me doing a rest day today :)

Stayed up late last night bc of running, doing stuff for previous PI, posting in roller derby fb group, and then cleaning skate bearings. Was able to sleep in, but definitely could've gotten higher quality sleep. I'm just so awake after evening practices!!!!!

rhr:45 slept:6.0

Don't know how much to log. Got to practice early to avoid rain, warmed up w some laps, also did a bit of toe stop stuff.

As a group, did some drills w partner blocking. Then started to rain, so we did shoe derby!!! Fun!!! So much easier when I don't have skates on ;P But also motivating to see that there was still a lot to work on with positioning and stuff, even with skating taken out of the equation.

running 52:22 [3] 5.42 mi (9:40 / mi) +102m 9:08 / mi

In Rose Canyon (heard a coyote last time, but Zombie said coyotes are afraid of people). SO BEAUTIFUL!!! <3 <3 <3 Ran most of the time without a headlamp bc there was so much ambient light. It was misting most of the time and raining some of the time. I can't remember the last time I got to go running in the rain!!!!!

Was safe and wore my super-warm winter tights even though it was like 60 degrees, bc I'd just been on the bus for 40 min after a very stop-and-go practice.

Edit: got a course record on Strava so I get a little crown :D

Roller derby 40:00 intensity: (15:00 @0) + (25:00 @1)

Morning. Meant to do everything in the morning, but then my toe stop broke a thread out of my plate, and separately I had a hard-ish fall that fell on a gap in the padding of my padded shorts.

- Forget what I did for warmup.
- Was very excited to practice the jammer stuff we did yesterday--sideways shuffling, spinny things, transitions around a blocker.
- Did more stuff. I forget.
7 PM

Roller derby 50:00 intensity: (10:00 @0) + (25:00 @1) + (15:00 @2)
rhr:50 slept:6.75

- 20 laps warmup, derby direction
- Tried to go non-derby direction, but left knee was feeling questionable
- Pyramid, up to 7 laps and then back down (49 laps total); 1 lap rolling rest between each, then some extra rest between the first 6-lap interval and the 7-lap one.
- 30 laps quick-ish, trying to get to the point where my legs are less coordinated, so I could practice focusing on form
- I think I did some smaller circles of crossovers
- Up and down the whole court w plow stops at each of 4 lines, ~4 times each leg. Very tired by the end of this set. Was hoping would get enough activity for fitness tracker to call it high intensity, but no.
- Jammer stuff: shuffling, transition around blocker, a few spinny things, but not many
- Again w the plow stops down and back. Think I was better at keeping my non-plowing leg in.
- More jammer stuff on the line
- Had another hard fall in the gap between shorts padding
- I think a few more laps

Side note: the roster for our biggest tournament is getting submitted by the end of this week, and they told us some people aren't going to make the cut. I assume I'm on the bubble (although have been getting positive feedback), and another player on the bubble has a relationship with one of the coaches that I don't think the other coaches know about :o Extra motivation to skate really well!!!

Other side note: haven't been sleeping the greatest. The nights I've had the best sleep are also the ones w the cloudiest mornings, so gonna try to hang a towel on top of my blinds and see if I can sleep later.

running drills 11:30 [3] 0.57 mi (20:00 / mi)

Yay running drills on turf :) One of my favorite things to do!
