Interesting post about increasing attendance at roller derby events, seems relevant to orienteering as well: https://medium.com/@shredinger/roller-derby-handli...

Injury update is that my foot inexplicably feels worse, and I'm using Advil and tape; knee's starting to feel better, and I'm hoping student health can help me with it; and ball of my foot is completely fine now!!! (That part might've just been from the asymmetrically worn-down wheels.)

Roller derby 1:00:00 intensity: (20:00 @0) + (40:00 @1)

Twisted my knee in the second jam of practice, so was pretty bummed. It's nothing serious (can still walk and presumably run), but not good for anything where people will be trying to run into me and knock me over.

Different people on the team have different opinions about what injured people should be doing at practice, but have talked to Nick (Thursday coach) before about injuries, and he was pretty receptive to me watching the explanation of what was going on and then afterwards going over to skate w the freshies, who weren't dong contact. And that part was fun!!!

Didn't further injure anything doing non-contact, but knee was a bit painful when I got down into derby stance, as well as practicing light hip bumps. Walking around the next day, I've felt it a few times when I take a step that's not straight forward, but it's mostly ok. Hopefully some rest will help!

So I canceled my trip to El Paso with the team this weekend (yay for Southwest!), which was kind of sad, but also might mean I can get an almost-final version of a manuscript to Tim instead. Mighttttt go on a quick run at some point, but also want to be careful of my feet. Could also do lower-impact stuff at the gym or on skates instead!

Woke up this morning and no foot pain even when I pressed on it! I did take some Advil before bed last night, but this is the best it's felt in awhile, and excited to do a short run or two to see how it's holding up!

Current situation with running: been having heel pain, so taking some time to only skate, which seems to irritate it less. This is where splitting between two sports helps me get less frustrated with injuries!!!

Have also been having some pain in the ball of my feet/big toes from skating, but since I discovered some uneven wear on my wheels and replaced them, it seems to have gotten at least a little better :) Ordered new skates that should fit my feet better, and just waiting for them to come in!

Repetitively doing things in my air-conditioned kitchen bc it's hot in San Diego!!! (At least compared to normal.)

Figure 8's around a chair, then spent a long time doing mohawks around the tables and chairs and trying to get a smooth push-off with my back foot.
