Sunday Jan 31 #

Note
(sick)

I felt so destroyed today, starting with not wanting to get out of bed!!! RHR 5-10 beats above my normal range, my head feels heavy, and I just felt like laying in bed a good portion of the day with some good podcasts. I did sleep enough though, which is good at least. No fever, so I don't think I'm sick (but checking the "sick" flag bc feels very similar to being sick. and got categorized as "stay home" in ucsd's symptom screener). I did sit outside for a Zoom chat with a prospective grad student along with one of my labmates, which was nice! Anyone living somewhere other than Southern California probably would've worn a light jacket, but I brought a down sleeping bag, and it was pretty cozy! I also made it to the close grocery store, where I got 2 boxes of frosted mini-wheats, and I ate a whole bowl :) Feels much easier than however much braunschweiger/oysters/prune juice I'd have to eat to get the same 18mg, but I should probably still eat the animal stuff at least anyway. A little frustrating for the iron stuff that without moving around much I also wasn't too hungry, so I didn't take as much advantage of my fancy new food as I could have otherwise.

Took a total rest day.

achilles: 0 pain
foot: 0 pain
headache: maybe a different kind; dull, hurts more when I move/lean over; none of the buzzing/fluttering headache feeling, and no eye pain. I can feel my pulse in my chest/neck/head when I lay down, but I wouldn't call that part of the headache.
allergy/rash: still here, not getting worse at least I think.

Note

Iron: It's absolutely impossible for me to eat 18mg iron from food, at least with my best attempts pre talking to a nutritionist but really structuring my food around iron content. Slightly frustrated, but there's still the frosted mini-wheats strategy I can try!!! Then also cross my fingers there's another simple explanation for the headaches/allergy stuff and I can re-start iron pills :P Because those were pretty great!
Allergy: Not so bad but also not gone.
Foot: Didn't notice any pain today.
Achilles: Stretched on my walk. I don't think I noticed any pain in my right (bad) one.
Headaches: Stood up once and my head hurt/felt heavy, but otherwise good!
12 PM

running 2:30 intensity: (17 @1) + (26 @2) + (1:47 @3) 0.26 mi (9:38 / mi)
ahr:148 max:167

No pain during this, although my knee felt weird as I was starting out.

cycling 31:27 intensity: (11 @1) + (31:07 @2) + (9 @3)
ahr:131 max:140

Talking to my friend! Convenient :P

Friday Jan 29 #

achilles exercises 20:00 intensity: (10:00 @0) + (10:00 @1)

Partial achilles exercises, with Tori!!! Then got wrapped up in memes on the lab Slack channel instead of finishing up by 10, so I'll plan to finish the exercises before/after biking later.
1 PM

Roller derby 23:25 intensity: (38 @0) + (8:45 @1) + (3:45 @2) + (6:55 @3) + (2:00 @4) + (1:22 @5) 0.0 mi
ahr:135 max:188

I somehow missed the cancellation email for my bike appointment, so I showed up there to find everything put away and nobody there! Probably much more comfortable for the attendant to stay at home anyway (chilly/rainy!) even though there were no flash floods here. The good news was I'd gotten my blood moving by walking there, so I grabbed my skates and tried out a new spot outside my laundry room (seating area that was also covered from the rain!!!).

Backwards crossovers to warm up, also as breaks between a few rounds of HomeCourt lateral agility. Also tried some jump squats and side-stepping.

Mom, here's a full video of my new PR from HomeCourt since you said my videos are so short! :P Also useful to have the whole video, to see how much things are breaking down as I'm more tired! Here I think I'm tired for most of it though. There are places I could be much smoother with weight on a single leg and transferring between them.

Iron: not taking till I get into the doctor. Going to the store to get food sources of iron.
Allergy thing: much better with a cool shower than a hot shower. Noticeable improvement overall.
Foot: relatively good as long as I focused to keep my weight in the center of my foot. Some pain (1-2) a few times today.
Achilles: relatively good. Haven't noticed any pain today.
Headaches: no more feelings like I'm gonna get one! have taken allergy medicine a few times today, which may also help here in case the headache's allergy related.

Note

More worried this evening that the iron pills are the problem, so I'm not gonna take my second one. Doctor's office hasn't called me back, so gonna call them tomorrow.
9 AM

achilles exercises 30:00 intensity: (13:00 @0) + (15:00 @1) + (2:00 @2)

Morning exercises with Alison! Got out of bed slightly earlier today than yesterday :P
4 PM

running 2:00 intensity: (10 @1) + (38 @2) + (1:12 @3) 0.19 mi (10:31 / mi)
ahr:141 max:152

On the way to biking

cycling 20:02 intensity: (6:09 @1) + (13:53 @2) 0.0 mi
ahr:123 max:138

Stationary biking outside. Lined up really well with when someone was coming to do maintenance on our apartment!

My sleep tracker thought I slept crappy and had an unreasonably high RHR, so I took it easy (and was late as expected bc of an eye appointment). Apparently there are thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for tomorrow though, so glad I scheduled one for today even if I wasn't free for the whole session!!! Outdoor classes are canceled tomorrow, so they might end up canceling outdoor recreation as well :(

achilles exercises 20:00 intensity: (10:00 @0) + (10:00 @1)

With Alison! Didn't quite spring out of bed in time to finish everything, so I had to cut them short to get to writing club in time. Skipped a few things on my strong leg.

Headache still officially gone (I think for 2-3 days now), and I did a whole day of work at my screen without even any eye pain. (Woohoo!!!) Took one iron pill yesterday and 2 today, per my plan to gradually reintroduce all the things that had changed around the time the headaches started (iron pills, working in room instead of common area, wearing contacts instead of glasses on days I have PT appointments). Still having some sort of allergic skin thing that started last Wednesday or Thursday (at which point I think I'd already paused the iron). Google tells me ferrous sulfate can cause a skin rash, but the reaction keeps being here even though I quit taking any of the ferrous sulfate and now I'm only taking the other kind that also has vitamin C. And I stopped wearing my new favorite wool shirt about a week ago, since google also tells me people can have reactions to wool (even though I also have other favorite wool things I've worn regularly without incident). Sighhhhhhh. I'll take skin allergies over headaches for sure though!!! Frustrating all this stuff's all happening on top of each other, but trying to focus on achilles stuff, since that's a consistently positive thing each day that I can notice improvement on!

Also did a long walk in the evening, which was long enough to be noticeably hungry, which is a feeling I don't usually get on days without anything aerobic! It was nice, and I made cheesy eggs with peppers :) And toast with lots of butter :)

Tuesday Jan 26 #

10 AM

Roller derby 30:42 intensity: (10:00 @0) + (15:00 @1) + (5:42 @2) 1.53 mi (20:04 / mi)

Skating. There was less debris than I thought would be on the ground after the wind (I think maybe they hire people to sweep??) so I tried skating over to the derby nook. It was kind of hard, and I'm not used to outdoor skating, but I guess it's good to get better at!
12 PM

achilles exercises 28:55 intensity: (15:00 @0) + (12:00 @1) + (1:55 @2)

During brown bag

running 2:00 intensity: (6 @1) + (46 @2) + (1:08 @3) 0.2 mi (10:00 / mi)
ahr:139 max:154

Brown bag ended early, so did a 2-min run :) Achilles felt good during, and fingers crossed for after!

Monday Jan 25 #

8 PM

achilles exercises 30:00 intensity: (12:00 @0) + (15:00 @1) + (3:00 @2)

Achilles exercises, minus hops. Also went on a walk to hang out outside in the wind and cold!!! Exciting! I avoided the route with trees on the way back though, since there were so many big branches on the ground!

Second full day without headaches!!! Not really any eye pain either! Woohoo!!!

Some achilles pain after sitting a bit, maybe a 3. (I was surprised!) I iced a bit, and also it went away later.
