Now there's like at least 3 grad students who skate, and we all met up at the good parking lot I normally go to! And one who drove there--not sure if she's a grad student or not! One of them even brought a speaker and played music--also white claws... :o I had 1/4 of one, which was quite enough with my feeble pandemic alcohol tolerance.

I was worried it was gonna be awkward to take breaks in the middle to get my hr down, but it was actually less awkward than being by myself just standing around :P I guess if it's a social event people are gonna stand around and talk anyway, which normally I'd hate if I was actually trying to work out!

Started with warmups--the best frankenstein walk i could do on skates, and also my normal set of one-legged deadlifts, but moving. Then tried some hops and one-legged transitions. I even technically did one to my outside edge!!! (left foot) and got back into doing them towards my inside edge. Had to actually sit down to let my hr back down between stuff, since apparently aimlessly rolling is aerobic. So I think the chest strap was worth it even for a casual skate!

OH! And I learned how to shoot the duck!!! But the fake way where you do a cannonball first and then stick your leg out. But I think that's pretty good considering the real way involves a single-leg squat on skates!

achilles exercises 4:30 [1]

Super annoyed again. Went for a walk and even when I had my mask off I was feeling like I needed to breathe through my mouth. Also my chest was a bit sore, possibly from being jabbed by the ultrasound thing yesterday. There was a student starting off, and she was very jabby! I may have also been feeling negative bc I ran into my labmate 3 times while she was on a run, and it was great to see her in person, but it for sure made me wish I was running more!!! While I was walking I decided to find flowers for my vase on my porch, and instead of taking these pink ones I'd been eyeing, I found some yellow ones that looked more weedy, but still in a cool desert-y kind of way.

I decided even when I'm not feeling great, I want to do even just a tiny minimal amount of achilles stuff, just to try to maintain, since the easier exercises aren't what get my heart rate up. Also focusing on my bad side is a good strategy for the reduced set I think. I even remembered to achilles stretch, which is a lot of bang for my buck :)

And since I'd been frustrated earlier, I decided to work on fixing/excite-ifying my 14-yo pj shorts with dogs in clothes on them. I got all the rips done with one direction of thread, and now I get to choose colors to go back in the other direction! Plus hem/waistband, but those aren't as critical for wearability as fixing the rips in actual shorts. Then I tried them on (they still fit ok even with all the warping from pulling thread tight, since the rips were pretty symmetrical!), and I created another rip when I took them off again. I guess the material is well on its way to being disintegrated, but that also makes it a fun project! I need to look into getting some more bright thread!

achilles exercises 27:00 intensity: (5:00 @0) + (10:00 @1) + (12:00 @2)

During brown bag. Yay for multitasking! Tired from waking up early for my echocardiogram (the second-to-last of the loose ends on the doctor front woohoo!!!!!) but rhr was lower last night, so hopefully the sleep tracker will like me again soon. In either case, I’ve never seen pictures of my heart before, so that was really cool! I should’ve asked them if I could have a copy of the data. Maybe they would’ve said no. I have friends who 3D print their brains, but not sure if the file format would be right if I got a file from them here, and also I don’t have whatever software id need to get it into the right format to 3D print. But now I’m reminded I should make a brain, and maybe a hippocampus too!

I have skate plans Sunday, so maybe tonight I’ll go for a walk during this zoom event about cookies. I also have a plan to go over to the cookie pickup location right before the deadline to see if they have any extras they need to get rid of :P the snickerdoodle one made me remember how long it’s been since I’ve eaten a snickerdoodle, and how I need to make sure I don’t forget about them again!

Note

Walk did not feel good. :((((( I'm pretty annoyed.

achilles exercises 25:30 intensity: (10:00 @0) + (10:00 @1) + (5:30 @2)

Achilles exercises, off skates, while talking to my friend on the phone :) Then went for a short walk and also got peanut m&ms from the vending machine! Tired enough to go to sleep easily I think, but not overly tired :)

Sleep was better last night, again, either bc I changed the timing of my dumb allergy stuff to be earlier, or bc it was from my vaccine and now it's done affecting me. Either way, I'm happy! Going to bed early bc of a morning doctor's appointment, so hopefully this will shift my sleep schedule earlier again for good :)

Also, I continue to be productive during work days now!!! I think that makes 4 days in a row!!! Even feeling good enough to get bored before I get tired :P

Very exciting milestone that attackpoint guessed my walk/run as a run :) I did a few rounds of walk/running at the beginning but then felt good and so did a really slow jog! Didn't feel terrible! And now I'm awake enough I might not even need coffee :o Achilles felt good, and I felt the ball of my foot a tiiiiiiny bit, but mostly good.

Afterwards went to go pick up my FREE COOKIES that the grad student association got us! There's a cookie-related zoom event Friday, but I decided I should eat my cookies now when they're freshest.

Note

My physical activity for the day was I went for a medium walk (an hour-ish, non-snail pace) and was a bit tired after.

Very productive today!!!! Things were making sense, and I felt smart the whole day and never ran out of brainpower even though I still haven't been sleeping great. So much progress!!! Without any crazy effort other than sitting down at my computer!!!!

Also looked at some fitness tracker reddits, and people are reporting worse sleep and recovery metrics a few days after even the first dose of various vaccines, and so I'm not gonna assume the bad sleep/recovery numbers are related to physical activity :)

On the food front, I am now a person who eats spinach! There was only spinach available for my food box this week even though I like arugula much better bc it needs less stuff on it to taste good (and is better in general). But I decided to make the most of the spinach situation, and I had a really great salad tonight. Spontaneously! Without trying to make myself eat spinach! And it was great!!! Sadly, on the box it said there's only 3.8 mg of iron in the WHOLE ENTIRE BOX, and I double-checked to make sure I was reading it right, but I need to eat more veggies anyway, so I still might as well eat one that has 1/18th of my daily iron per serving (based on a very generous estimate of how much spinach I can eat in one serving). Meanwhile, I also scored some half-price beef jerky, which isn't too unreasonably priced when it's half-price :)

Productive day! Could be feeling better still, but I got lots of important things done, and lots of screen time without headaches :)
