hiking 51:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (18:00 @2) + (3:00 @3)

Lent my friend my screwdriver set, then we randomly figured out she knew of a hiking trail within walking distance that I had no clue existed!!! It was by a pokemon gym I've been to on multiple occasions and there was a random driveway-looking thing on the other side of the street that happened to be a trail! Wow!!!

About 2.5 hours of hiking, no distance recorded since my fitbit just auto-detected it. (Copied zone minutes from there.) Some really great steep and pretty stuff too! Found a potential connection to Torrey Pines, which is a cool beach hike, and also Los Penasquitos, which I think there's an orienteering map of! Will have to check those out next time! I think this might also be a great place for my next run/walk or solid run--will come back and try it out!!! There's a really gentle sustained hill that I think would be great for longer repeats, if I ever get back to doing those :)

Bike appointment! Had a meeting that cut into it a bit, but put it on my phone and then was multitasking :)

I feel really great today!!! Great night of sleep!!! Also great recovery metrics! So decided not to cancel this, even though I'd planned to take things down a notch this week.

achilles exercises 17:02 intensity: (2:45 @0) + (12:02 @1) + (2:15 @2) 0.0 mi

Achilles exercises when I got home. No hops. Also remembered to stretch (achilles and also legs).

Missed the rent-hike protest but I heard if you're not blocking traffic or interfering with stuff, all a protest does is make you feel good. I don't think that's completely true (also can connect people/get attention of university administrators, in this case), but given the other time I've spent on anti-rent-hike stuff, I didn't feel like I'd prioritized wrong.

Walk/run 38:20 intensity: (11 @0) + (1:09 @1) + (8:33 @2) + (26:07 @3) + (2:20 @4) 2.89 mi (13:16 / mi) +1m 13:15 / mi

Morning (kind-of) run!!! So nice out! I'm still apparently not on daylight savings time, and/or having energy again means I'm more wired and therefore don't just automatically fall asleep? And/or was distracted by my hip popping while I was trying to find a comfortable sleep position. Anyway, 2 nights in a row of sub-par sleep, and I'm starting to feel it. Mostly just my head feeling heavy/slow--running felt so nice!!! And RHR was in my normal-low range again and lowest early in the night, so I *don't* think the sub-par sleep is from overdoing the activity. Anyway, I woke up super early and debated whether to try to fall back asleep, and then decided to just start my day earlier and hope it resets my internal clock. As soon as I was done with the run-walk, I felt sleepy again -_- But gonna try to power through the rest of my day (with coffee!) and hopefully be ready for bed early!

But anyway, did this just by feel and didn't start with a plan in mind. Also sometimes got distracted and so didn't switch on round numbers. You can't tell from the pace, but I was starting to feel like my stride was more natural and I was actually picking my feet up! A great feeling!!!

Zero achilles pain during, although I've been having some minor (pain level 1) inflammation-y discomfort at rest. Felt a tiny pain in my left (good) foot at home after I was done, so gonna keep an eye on that. Also felt my right (bad) ball of my foot a couple times during, but better after. Feet generally feeling tight, so I should do calf stuff and actually remember to do the dumb anti-inflammatory this time. Pills are so much easier, and I wish there were 0 consequences of just taking frequent ibuprofen instead. But yeah. Goal for the day = ice foot + achilles, also topical anti-inflammatory! Possibly both during lab meeting! Also roll out foot/calf (not during lab meeting).

I think ~25 min jogging total.

Outdoor gym appointment. Felt super annoyed by my mask today, couldn't wait till I was done! Also got annoyed at a guy near me wearing his under his nose, since he's only had the whole pandemic to learn how to wear a mask, and also because I was taking pains to follow the campus rules even though it was unpleasant >:( But made me less annoyed to focus on the fact that I'm almost all the way immune, maybe like a 10-fold decrease in risk, and even though people aren't perfect at the rules, campus is still a super safe place to live and work out!

Backwards crossovers, attempting to zigzag and then stop as close as possible to a cone/shoe. Getting more comfortable gliding on one leg as the other one goes to stop!

Then was working on single-leg transitions, but I fell on my (elbow-pad-less) elbow while I was just standing during a break. I think it felt worse than it was (and maybe I hit my knee too?), because I decided to do the rest off skates, but now I feel completely fine and might not even get a bruise!

running drills 10:23 intensity: (5:15 @0) + (4:33 @1) + (35 @2) 0.28 mi (37:03 / mi)

Walking running drills/active stretching

Also! Recovery metrics 100% in my normal range now! Yay!

Bike appointment was canceled today since it was raining -_- Just goes to show I should schedule liberally and cancel if needed, since I'll get fewer appointments than I sign up for! Second time this has happened! (Not enough spots to go around, so impossible to wait till the day before to see how I feel.)

This was the regular set of achilles stuff, still no hops. Achilles and foot both felt great today :) Also got some good stretching in after, which is important to remember to do! RHR was lower today, which is what would happen if the tiny jump was from my vaccine and not from overdoing it physically :)
