JK Long, Cold Ash
This run was fine. Generally navigating pretty well for the most part of every leg, with some slips in control circles. If it had been a middle distance, then it could have been another result like yesterday's, but even a 41 control long distance has less emphasis on not messing up inside the circle, which is all that I had going for me today. Much more able to run today - slightly less hot and I was more sensible about not sitting around in the sun for as long and staying hydrated beforehand.
Got caught by Elkington at 17, stuck with him until just before the drinks station on the long leg and then let him go. Having a tow for the middle section was pretty nice though.

JK Middle, Windmill Hill
Went into this expecting reasonably good things - I've been running quite well recently, and had a good performance at BUCS, so fairly confident of some decent results. Sadly it wasn't to be, and this was a bit of a disaster. Told myself I wanted to just forget it, which means I should probably actually analyse what happened:
Started off reasonably to 1, then had a big miss in the circle on 2. Some hesitations in the circle on 3 and 7, then a bit of a direction issue exiting 8. Going ok into the circle for 12, but misread the map - description said 'gully', and I read a hooked bit of gully as a small depression, so when I arrived in the circle it didn't fit with my mental picture and I got confused. Dropped at least a minute relocating off various things before finding it, and didn't realise what I'd done wrong until the very end.
13-15 fine, then another issue with direction for the last part of 16 sent me through some nasty nettles which I expect there was an elephant track through if I'd followed the right line. Picked a route to 17, then decided to change it halfway along, then ended up way too far left after having dropped a lot more height than necessary. Got caught by Ali at 18 and just stuck with him until the end.
Really struggling to run in the heat, and the terrain didn't seem too difficult so I think I tried to go faster than I could.
