| Wanted to do an hour, but I was about half way along Hanes Point when I got a back spasm, that left me in pain. I tried to stretch a bit, but my legs were trembling. Decided "retired, hurt" was the better part of valour. |

| Working late, and when I finally got out it was dark, freezing cold, raining like la vache qui pisse and the wind was blowing my shirt up around my neck. A glass of red and some King Island roaring 40s put paid to any sense of motivation for a late night run.
Also learned today that the Indonesia VP will visit Washington on Sept 26, which probably means I'll need to be in Washington then, not Jakarta, which in turn means I won't be able to swing by for the Oz Champs in Western Australia the first week of October. Bother. |

Usual slow plod. It's getting dark earlier now.
Spent all day producing a briefing note for senior management on the Indonesia infrastructure DPL. It's good to be back in the swing of things, given recent distractions. |

Still feeling the weekend in the quads - legs are tired but not sore. A little more energy than yesterday. |

| Work - Tidal Basin - Lincoln Memorial
Back to work after the long weekend of Niagara Falls, orienteering, and a quick peek at Toronto. The fatigue from orienteering in a nice area, whatever the quibbles with the organization, is a really good feeling. Gee I've missed it.
My legs are still feeling very tired - they were shaking after this slow trot. The fatigue factor makes this effort an intensity 2, even though no faster than any of my usual runs. |
Monday Aug 28 |

| Home to corner of Q and 30th in Georgetown, and back.
Slow trot, sore quads from yesterday. Perhaps from having to lift my legs to get through the open areas.
Spent most of the day driving back from Canada - we had slept in north-western Pennsylvania. |

| Canadian Orienteering Championships - Long M35
Felt like I was orienteering better than yesterday. Certainly none of the big mistakes. Lost it physically about 2/3 of the way around, but that was to be expected I guess.
The first three controls were pretty tricky, so I took them very carefully, going from one clearly identifiable point to the next, using the same technique as in Croatia/Slovenia. This terrain wasn't in the same league, but then neither is my orienteering at the moment.
After the first three controls it was a long slog to the south of the map with mostly relatively easy controls, around a lake, and then back north, before finishing again in the tricky area. I quite enjoyed the forest. I finished in the top half of the field of around 20, which given my fitness isn't too bad. |
