| orienteering race 1:43:17 [3]*** 12.8 km (8:04 / km) +435m 6:54 / km | ||

| Fair Hill - Mason-Dixon
Felt faster than yesterday over the first few controls. But adjusted for climb, my kilometer rate is the same as yesterday's. The course setting was more interesting than yesterday. 2 execution errors, 2 route choice errors, and the running was pretty good over the first 8 controls. The mistakes: #9 - ran to a control that I could see from a long way off, and then couldn't figure out what it was hung on, and didn't know how high up the hill I had come. 1'20'' lost #14 - Bad execution - got disoriented coming out of 13, and headed over the wrong saddle. Perhaps due to feeling tired, having worked hard getting to13. 1'45'' lost. #15 - poor route choice, but it's still not really obvious to me, just other people's times indicate it was a poor route choice. 30'' lost. #22 - poor route choice, should have gone through the field, and instead got slowed down by gullies and vegetation along the straight line, also hesitated because I never saw the second track: 45'' lost. As expected, poor execution loses more time than poor route choice.

| Fair Hill
Started off slowly, because I was a bit worried that the distance would be a problem. But I seem to have got in the swing of things by about the 5th control. And the distance was OK, so I guess whatever I had for the last few days is moving on. A very easy course. Attackpoint splits analysis says I made errors at #13, #15, and #20. On #13, I just got caught up in the vegetation. I overshot #15, costing 1'30''. #20 was a failure to push the running on a long leg across the fields. So one execution error, no route choice errors, and I could have pushed the running a bit more. Decided I had done enough running for the day, and for the week, and so there was no point in doing the sprint. Every control found adds to overall experience, but there's pretty low value in finding easy controls.

| running 25:00 [2]4.69 km (5:20 / km) | ||
| Home - Washington Monument
Still feeling crappy, with strange heart beats and weak legs, but getting better. Don't expect to do too well tomorrow though.
Thursday Mar 29 | ||
| running 30:00 [2]5.7 km (5:16 / km) | ||
| Wanted to do the full two bridges run, but ran out of energy at Tidal Basin. Something is definitely wrong. | ||
Wednesday Mar 28 | ||
| Note | ||
| Fuzzy head, and it felt like my heart rate was up. So I wasn't too sure it was a good idea to run today. Also, it just didn't work out in terms of the stuff I had to do. I have a long run coming up on Saturday, so I'll still make my week's training target.
Dinner at Cafe Atlantico, to celebrate my meaning of life year: 42 today. The West Indies got behind the required run rate early on, and never looked like threatening Australia. It's a pity not to have seen the last ever clash between Glenn McGrath and Brian Lara.
Tuesday Mar 27 | ||
| running 40:00 [2]7.27 km (5:30 / km) | ||
| Same run as yesterday, but in the morning, in a light rain.
Watched Australia's batting against the West Indies on tv, at the hotel, and then at the airport. And now back in DC, I learn that the West Indies didn't bat because of the rain, and so they'll bat tomorrow. Australia's total looks good enough to defend.
Monday Mar 26 | ||

| St Kitts, along the beach behind the Marriott at sunset.
