Event: HVO A-Meet

orienteering race 2:09:42 [3]**** 8.5 km (15:16 / km)
17c
Surebridge Mountain

Wore my new shoes. Took the skin off my big toes. Down to a walking pace for the last third. Ouch.

Messed up #3 where the control circle hid a contour, and I couldn't understand the re-entrant I was looking at just before the control. Wandered around the general area, and halfway back to #2 to re-attack, at which point Greg Balter came past and led me to to the control.

Big hesitation at #4, where again I was having trouble reading the contours immediately before the control.

And then at #9, emerged into a wide open area that was mapped as forest. Apparently a fire came through some years ago, but there's no trace of fire now, and the map is just wrong. Would it really have been too difficult to use OCAD to put a yellow mesh over the entire area? Or alternatively, don't put a control there.

Blue, Day 1 - Splits

Sunday Apr 15

Note
Six hours taping control sites at Fountainhead, in the pouring rain. The creek through the northern part was in flood, and uncrossable in most places. Fortunately there's a bridge that got me across.
