A full day: first a four year old's birthday at Birchgrove Oval; then swimming lessons and lunch; off to the grocers for a Christmas tree, then to the attic to get all the paraphernalia; then Granny came to visit; then off to the shops for food.

Finally I got a chance to run at about 6; by which time it was pouring down. I seem to have changed in my old age though, because I now find this sort of run more agreeable than a run in the midday summer sun.

Next, off to a birthday party to drink too much expensive red wine.

Feeling tired from the forecasting round. Came home at midday to take Elodie to her ballet rehearsal. Could have run, but it was really hot and I was tired; so, no run.

Worked until 1 am last night. Didn't feel like much of a run today.

Worked late on the Half Year Review last night, so I didn't get enough sleep, and thought I should just plod around today. (Ploddier than usual).

Got stopped by a dog right on 6km, putting my time at 36.05. Had to accelerate over the final 300 metres to get my pace under 6 mins/km.

Getting a bit grumpy about the ongoing privatisation of the Domain. There seems always to be some part fenced off for a private function.

The Domain was fenced off for 16 days for a Midnight Oil concert. Lots of people would have enjoyed that, even if only for a few hours, but it's not clear why a proper rock venue wasn't used. Peter Garrett's a fine person, but why are public resources being used to make him richer?

Now there's a section of Mrs Macquarie's Chair fenced off for what seems to be a marketing promotion for Great Britain's innovation. I can't imagine that people will be talking about the fun they had at that event; and on the other hand, there are a bunch of regular park users who are inconvenienced.

I'm sure the trustees are merely responding to budgetary pressures. But I imagine in the long run, there'll be pressure to put up permanent seating because there's no point pulling seats down and re-erecting them every few days. I'd like proper cost-benefit analysis of the use of these public assets to be published.

Today was Malcolm Young's funeral, at St Mary's. Funny to think the driving force behind the second highest selling album in the world lived just around the corner.

Same distance as yesterday, but it felt so much easier.

I conked at 5km, not that I was going fast. Had a pause, did another 1km, but that was enough. My body was either saying, not enough food today, or you've done enough distance lately. Never mind. I've always thought the key is to build up distance gradually, and worry about speed later.
