Woken up at 2 am by the neighbour’s music. Couldn’t get to sleep till 4.30.

Plod around the BG. Feeling very slowly sluggish. Had wanted to do 10k, but barely hung on for 5k.

Lots of people taking selfies in front of the opera house or with the Harbour Bridge as a background. A queer exhibition was opening at the Art Gallery, with a rainbow flag being raised on my first pass, and then a pair of red and black dancing condoms.

Sprint at Castle Hill.

A scrappy area where it was hard to figure out whether to take paths or go straight. I started losing my shorts towards 5, and had to slow twice to retie the cord. Then lost 40-50 seconds at #12, when my SI stick got caught on a branch and flew off, and I had to stop and search for it.

Inspection of the splits revealed I lost a lot of time in the final few controls. I did lose some motivation after dropping the SI stick. But even so, it’s pretty hard to touch Andy’s pace.

Picked out my aunt and uncle's old house on Castle Hill Road, on the way home. The screening wall at the front is still there, 40+ years later.
