orienteering 40:12 5.05 km (7:58 / km) +131m 7:03 / km
Beaten by 25 seconds by Peter.
I started fairly late, and I knew Peter’s time before I started. For much of the course I thought I was going to get the win, but it just got away from me at the end.
Slow to #1, but ok.
Misread watercourses on the way to #3, and punched #4 instead. Realised straightaway, and bounced across to #3. That was at least a minute lost.
I went right on the way to #6, to avoid some erosion gullies. Ended up higher than I was thinking, and hesitated a bit while I tried to work out which gully was which.
#9 seemed a bit lower than I was expecting, but the bracken eventually gave it away.
Too far right for #11, the I realised I was standing beside a pit, which told me where I was, but I still ran past the control.
#12 and #14 both seemed to take longer than I was expecting.
Belted back along the track from#15 to the finish, knowing I was going to just fall short of the desired time.
A good middle distance course, given this was a pretty non-technical area.
