Schools Relay. I was running first leg with Kate and Joseph on leg 2 and 3. For dropped by the top group pretty quickly, on the way from 1-2. Pretty clean through all the controls and running well after the first few. I came in with a solid time, only 6 minutes behind the leaders but got disqualified for crossing the railway line. I didn't see the out of bounds green next to the railway symbol because of all the other clutter of symbols around and there wasn't any crossing marked nearby or any obvious out of bounds symbols so I decided that the railway line must not be in use. They had announcements about the railway being dangerous and out of bounds hours after the start, but I wasn't even aware that there was a railway on the map until the mass start at 9:30.

Schools Long - Senior Boys. Feeling sick before the start and not feeling good running. A few minor navigational mistakes, a clean but slower run.

Schools Sprint - Senior Boys. Pretty good the whole way around, no big mistakes. I completely forgot we had a map flip so I was a little slow going into the second loop and I was also a little less smooth through the controls in the final loop. Ended up where I expected to - right in the middle of the field.

Aus Middle Champs - M16A. Found it harder to keep map contact today than yesterday. I totally lost my place going to #2 and got really lucky to stumble across the control without losing much time. Got pulled off course by a bunch of controls that were not mine on #4 because I wasn't confident that I was matching things right, relocated ok but lost about 3 mins. No significant time losses for the rest of the course but still not super clean.

VIC Middle Champs - M16A. My first run in gold mining so I was taking it really slow out of the start, hit #1 and #2 ok, overshot number 3 and lost about 2.5 mins. Got #4 ok, then got took what I thought was a slower route choice through some very steep earth banks on the way to #5. I was 3rd on this split though, so it must have actually been faster than going around. I was (mostly) a lot better as the course went on, feeling a lot more comfortable recognising gold mining features. One more 3 min mistake at #10 pushed me down from 6th to 9th. I tripped over on the way up the hill out of #9, and oriented my map using the direction of the leg as north instead of the north lines.

Orienteering Grand Prix. Wasn't feeling up to pushing this hard, especially with the Aus Middle tomorrow. #3 I tried to go around the steeper earth banks to get into the control, but found that it didn't actually get any less steep on the brown earth bank than on the black. Lost a lot of places there since I had to come back and climb up earlier and I didn't want to try to push back up towards the front.
