Bike (trainer) 45:00 [3]

Everyone's healthy today -- yayyy! Simple trainer ride.

Had my bike at work and was intending to ride late afternoon but got a little too busy (and I will admit to a certain amount of wussing out on my part as well - doubt that would have happened on a nice sunny day!).

Note

Exercise in adaptation: with hubby out of town for the rest of the week on biz, plans for the day vaporized when snoogie wookums #2 woke up with a dreaded "pinkish looking eye". No school for her and a morning of shuffling with pediatrician, pharmacy, fast BlackBerry thumbs for work stuff, and tag-team with MIL partway through the day. So thankful for my MIL!
2 PM

Run 15:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Trail Roc 255

Seriously abbreviated work day so this would have to do. Threw on the running shoes for a brisk (temperature, not pace!) lap around the disposal cell. Quiet and meditative -- beautiful restored prairie on one side and 1.5 million yds3 of radioactive waste (low level!) peacefully sleeping on the other.
9 PM

Strength/Stretch 15:00 [1]

Homework done and everyone in bed. Just some simple stretching and core work...then bed for me too. Pooped.

Run 44:21 [3]
ahr:155 shoes: Inov8 Trail Roc 255

Work -> Hamburg Trail -> drop into Lost Valley -> hang a left @ bottom of hill to get in some singletrack -> back to work. Made it before the rain! Surprisingly un-sloppy (but I wouldn't ride it). Pretty darn slow pace.
10 PM

Strength/Stretch 35:00 [2]

Easy jump rope warm up then...

Strength = push ups, hammies, glut. med., hips, core
Stretch = static, dynamic, and foam rolling

Survey says: WEAK!

Note

O' meet day! So glad it went well -- especially considering the shaky start when I rolled up to the Visitor Center with cars EVERYWHERE and maybe 100-200 people around! Freak out moment...didn't we say 9AM start on the website???? But it turns out this was an "informal training run" of sorts. This reinforces the importance of proper permitting. "Informal events" may still require a permit! Especially with that many people!!

Had to get tough with them and kick them out...in the nicest way possible, of course. :) Bam - parking is clear again.
9 PM

Strength/Stretch 30:00 [1]

Simple strength/stretch routine using some very valuable tips from Josh at O' meet. Another hamstring tendon avulsion survivor! So thankful for the feedback.

Orienteering 5:02:00 [2]
shoes: Jalas Jukola

Course setting Red and White @ Babler. More obsessive stewing about control placement...shifted red 2 and 5 slightly from taped location (like 1 or 2 meters -- silly, I know!). And yes, I did take a couple minutes to admire the amazing ancient White Oaks near red 4. Walked around their bases and took a few pics. Maybe 200 yrs. old?? Would love to know.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2]
shoes: Jalas Jukola

Control setting @ Babler. Just a few green controls. I would have gotten more done, but I really stewed about the proper placement of green 4...should it go SW 2 more meters? Is it OK as is? Are you SURE the trail was re-routed? Where are all those darn pits and depressions to the NW? I can only find a few of them...wring hands...

Egads, this sport can be infuriating!!!! :)

Orienteering 4:26:00 [2]
shoes: Jalas Jukola

Field checking O courses (white, orange, and rest of green) at Babler. Slow and careful -- lots of checking and re-checking. Green 4 gave me fits until I figured out that the trail had been re-routed downward by about 2 contour lines - and old trail was pretty much GONE. It was tricky because the shape of the new trail was very similar to the old one. Good map-reading exercise! Just as beautiful a day as Friday except 30+ degrees cooler...stop/go in 20 degree weather starts getting to you after a while!

Bike (trainer) 45:00 [3]

Quick spin on the trainer -- just had to get on the bike in some form! Combo of easy spinning and 60 sec. surges.

Note

So it's like deja vu from my high school years when my parents performed a gentle intervention begging me to reduce the number of academic/extracurricular activities clogging up the day. Ballet, girl scouts, and pantomime company (GS and pantomime?? nerd alert!!!) got the boot. Cross country/track, flute, and science club stayed.

Fast forward 30 or so years...this time a self-intervention. And this time SLOC permitting (SORRY guys!!!) and flute got the boot. Simplification was definitely needed.

Maybe it will help me stay up with my AP log. Ha!

Orienteering 3:52:18 [2]
shoes: Jalas Jukola

Field checking red course at Babler. Mannnnn did I ever need this! Long days/nights of work lately and only short workouts. What a glorious afternoon! Minimal changes from my arm chair design and using a totally different part of the park this time. Yay - no tornado damage. Course is looking to be about 7.4k and reasonable climb. Got some vetters out there today so I am looking forward to their feedback.

Thank goodness for O' shoes - lots of slippy slime under the leaf cover.

Bike 46:59 [3] 7.2 mi (9.2 mph)
ahr:136

Snow ride on the Hamburg -- I found it quite challenging staying in the 8" wide trough of beaten-down snow from previous cyclists. At higher speeds, venturing outside the trough caused severe fish-tailing...almost lost it a few times! Painfully slow speed -- but useful for developing control, I suppose.

What a difference conditions make -- last October I did this exact ride in 29:37 with 15.0 AVS. Weird because the distance on my computer for that ride was 7.4 mi......if anything I would think the snow ride would register greater distance (due to slipping of front wheel) ????

Run hills 1:00:00 [2]

Well...I call this legit to log based on the energy expended. This was two plus hours of hoofing up and down our yard hills as a designated sled transporter (uphill - sometimes with 40+ pounds of kid perched on top). Because of the frequent pauses, I'm calling this one hour continual. Probably 50 or so jogs up the hills in the snow and a few laps around portions of the yard trail with sled/kid in tow. Those guys just didn't get tired! Wish there was more snow...got a little thin in spots.
4 PM

Run 31:03 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Trail Roc 255

Real run this time -- laps around the yard trail, gravel road, and surrounding subdivisions. Real easy pace.
