In Poplar Bluff today. "Laps" in decent-sized hotel pool (decent size for a hotel anyway).
11 AM

Hiking @ Mingo Nat. Wildlife Refuge. Fascinating (and sad) history. HOT

Swim 20:00 [3]

Since our boat time got cut short yesterday, decided to give it another try for a half-day. Marina manager felt so bad about yesterday's storm carnage, that he insisted we take the monster party boat complete w/ upper deck, twisty slide into the water, and free gas (we weren't planning to use much, but still). Kids were drooling! We much prefer person-powered boats, but had to admit it was fun. Impressed w/ Clearwater Lake - a Corps flood-control lake built in the 40s and surrounded entirely by undeveloped forest. Not sure about the whole flood-control philosophy, but it sure is a scenic lake and very lightly used. Would love to explore more someday.

Swim 20:00 [3]

Rented pontoon boat @ Clearwater Lake and had a morning of swimming/tubing fun. Out for a couple hours but only 20 min or so of fitness-worthy activity. Time got cut short by a ginormous t-storm that was bearing down on us as we sped back to marina. BIG, crazy chop by the time we got there and dock boys were wild-eyed and frantic wondering how these chumps (us) were going to safely dock the boat in their little, narrow slip. Hubby guided it in w/ cool, calm precision much to their great amazement (mine too). They even cheered! Our hero.

Run (paved) 57:23 [3] 5.58 mi (10:17 / mi)
shoes: Hoka One One Kailua Trail

From our cabin, run on the Corps' Lake Trail @ Clearwater Lake. Crazy-humid and hot.

Hiking (trail) 20:00 [1]

Left Eminence and headed for Piedmont. Hiking at Blue Spring (this Blue Spring was on the Current River).
6 PM

Swim 12:00 [3]

12 minutes of "laps" in the pool at our cabin place. Laps in quotes because it wasn't a lap pool but I did the best I could.

Paddling (river) 4:00:00 [2] 8.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Family kayak trip on the Jacks Fork. Hubby and I each had a tandem kayak w/ one kid. This was their first "real" float trip. Cool and drizzly meant that the river was empty. Chill pace w/ lots of crawdad hunting. A couple tense moments through rapids. Everyone stayed upright! This was the only section of river open in the Nat. Scenic Riverways - everything else closed due to high water and flash flooding.
3 PM

Hiking (trail) 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Alley Spring/Alley Mill hike and tour.
