Note

During my injury downtime, I have been doing some gear purchasing to support the Sept. Wonderland circuit hike. So I will report on initial testing. I hope to also test everything in the field during our upcoming family camping vacation in Iceland (thank you Wow Airlines for the uber-affordable tickets).

First up - stove. I was considering going stove-less but couldn't come to terms with the idea of no hot coffee (!!). Esbit/alcohol is still allowed in MRNP and since those are always going to be lighter than canister fuel and I don't plan to do anything fancier than heating up water, I'm nixing canister options.

Choice: Trail Designs Sidewinder Ti-Tri w/ 900ml Evernew Ti pot. This system works w/ alcohol, Esbit or wood, but I will probably use Esbit for ease of use. Entire stove system including pot, windscreen, Esbit stove AND 5 days of fuel (10 tabs) comes in at 9.5 oz. Patio test brought 3 cups of cold water to a rolling boil in 12:15. Will be good to test in Iceland.

Note

Trying to spend as much time outside in the heat of the day as possible - yardwork, wash car, clean chicken coop, etc. Hot!

Strength/Stretch 10:00 [2]

Myrtl/hip stuff. Plus an active day of outdoor chores (unlogged).

Bike (paved) 1:11:22 [3] 17.1 mi (14.4 mph) +210ft
shoes: Trek Superfly 100

Injury flag removed. This felt pretty good. Dropped car at subie dealership and headed out for 2+ laps around Lakeside 370. Could feel the problem area very subtly protesting but it went away after a little while. Bike is so big and squishy!

I'm definitely going to give DK a go but listen to my leg. Since it's forecasted to be mostly sunny and 95F, I will clearly have other competing issues to deal with that day.
6 PM

Bike (gravel and singletrack) 50:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8.4 mph)
shoes: Trek Superfly 100

Bridge over Bangert ride!! So much fun to see everyone. Not a slow ride on the twisty Bangert trails - David led the way at a stiff pace in typical David fashion. :) Good, good times.

Krav Maga 1:00:00 [2]
(injured)

Sparring w/ some restrictions (no kicks plus passed on one of the warm-up moves). Focused on punch combos. Worked out OK.
10 PM

Strength/Stretch 10:00 [2]

myrtl plus other hip/glut medius stuff

Bike (trainer) 40:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Fuji Team

Feeling nearly normal (on the bike/trainer - definitely can't run). Eccentric actions are the ones that bother my leg/hamstring tendon and there aren't a lot of those on the bike. Going to try to do a longer ride on Fri.

Strength/Stretch 10:00 [2]

PT plus most of myrtl
