Biking (Mountain) 1:15:00 [3] 16.0 km (4:41 / km)

Distance is estimated.
A quick burn at the Nordic Cente with Carbon now that the rain stopped and today was nice. Trails were pretty good (Canmore and Banff area recover from rain quicker than Bragg Creek and other areas. Nice to live closest to this stuff.).
Headed out on EKG East, Swamp, Sherwood Forest, EKG to the Mine Meadow, then up to blue Terminator, back to the Mine Meadow and into lower EKG, blue upper coal chutes, black lower coal chutes, Long Road to Ruin, EKG, Artistic Merit, Orchid, Canmore Trail back up to the stadium. Done around 6:00, then hung out until the 6:30 group run

With Canmore Trail Culture.
Man, a lot of people come out to these runs, had about 25-30 people. We were able to split into fast, medium and slower groups. Medium suited me fine and it was quick enough, everyone seemed to be gasping about the same. Did a loop of EKG. The brief pauses to regroup at the trail junctions were a welcome break, I was feeling it more than I expected after the bike ride. Hopefully some good training effect from that.

Horseshoe, some of G8, some of G9 and then the usual way back down from the Montane side, with Kim. Light drizzle but no need for a jacket.

Right shoulder is a little achy around the collarbone, probably due to stepping up to my next level of physio exercises

Horseshoe Loop with Myka and Carbon.

A break in the rain! At last! gotta get outside and move :)
The run started with the usual uphill-no-warmup. Held a pretty steady tempo pace (despite a recent salmon dinner sitting a little heavy. Had to have some delicious "company salmon" in honour of someone who may be celebrating with the same tonight), and everyone kept up well. Went up, up, but not quite as high as the top traverse. Over to the G8 junction, that was enough, then back, across the creek and up the steep trail to Montane, then down through the forest west of Slice's and Miles's.
A good run and the +8C was really nice. Trail had some puddles but was good. Did I mention that it was good to get out? :)

Highline with Canmore Trail Culture - Myka, Carbon, our neighbours Kim and Simon, Emily, Fitzy and three other girls. I thought there might be more people.
The forecast for the weekend is wet but weather was good for the run. Cool off the start but became perfect. Started with the ascent up the West Connector to the Highline - folks were keen to get this climb over with at the beginning of the run but it is a tough start for everyone. Intentionally didn't attack it too fast which was the key to being able to run all of it. Coughing a little but mostly feeling okay. And maybe we still need to adjust to the altitude after a month at or near sea level? Trail was damp but only a few puddles, and not too greasy. Across Highline from west to east with some cool cloud/fog in the background, dropped down by Three Sisters and then hunted out some of the mid-line trails on Carbon's enthused request. A nice run back through mossy forest. Lots of chatting amongst the group. Came out by the road just below the Quarry Lake parking lot. The run seemed a little shorter than I thought it would be. A bunch of us headed to Le Fournil after, a very nice French bakery and coffee shop. The baking is like an art display, so nice. Had some pain au chocolate, it felt like being back in Europe again with our daily stops for pastry in Spain during the bike rides. Some good chats about plans for the summer, including booking Sol Lodge for the running group on September long weekend and going in for some mountain biking, trail running, and good meals.

Biking (Mountain) 2:00:00 [3] 21.6 km (5:33 / km)

West Bragg Creek with Carbon and Big Dawg Schmoe.

Carbon and I are in Calgary on Wednesday evenings, so why not bring the mountain bikes and enjoy the great trails around Bragg Creek and Moose Mountain during the week, while playing around Canmore/Kananaskis/Banff on the other days :)

Up Ranger Summit, down Snakes and Ladders (first time on that trail that they completed last year - it's a nice long addition!), down Ridgeback R3 (fun! twisty and less manicured, felt a little more old-school than some of the newer smoother trails), up Bobcat, down Strange Brew.
Such a fun evening, great to be out on the mountain bikes again! Carbon led the charge up the climb and I figured I would settle in at the back, not sure if my lungs and energy were 100%, but after hearing Big Dawg and I chatting away behind her, she felt that we were riding stronger because we could talk while climbing. She sent us to the front, but then Carbon was on my butt on the downhills, downhilling better than I was. She was just using front brake, I was using a bunch of front brake but also a mix with rear brake.
Tons of cars in the parking lot (200?) but only saw about 3 or 4 groups of riders on the trail. The clouds and forecast looked threatening, but no rain, trails were dusty dry.
