Dirtbag intervals

A really beautiful night. Summer is here!
I haven't been to a club run (of either club) in quite a while so it was fun to catch up with a lot of people.
Tonight's drill goes by many names: Greyhounds, etc. You group up with about 4-6 people that are close to your speed and run at a moderate pace in single file. The back person sprints to the front and then settles back into the group pace. When they get there, the next person at the back goes. We did this for 6 km or more, doing 3 lengths of the causeway alongside the lower Spray Lakes canal. I went with one of the middle-speed groups. My group's pace was around 5:20 per km. 5:00 per km might have been more ideal for me but when two guys broke off to chase a faster group I hesitated to join them. It was good that I didn't go - they spent the rest of the time trying to catch the other group and those two guys were already faster than I am. No problem, it's easy enough to just work even harder during your sprints if you want to increase the intensity.
We even had a couple of kayakers and SUPers alongside us, taking advantage of the beautiful evening. We also got harassed by a big group of female mountain bikers who were riding on the other side of the canal. Not sure what they were up to... Carbon's log may know...
Then a good crew of us headed over to The Wood for more socializing and appetizers/beers. A couple of the harassing mountain bikers showed up too.

Biking (Mountain) 1:45:00 [2] 19.5 km (5:23 / km) +550m 4:43 / km

Ellison trails in Vernon, starting and ending by Predator Ridge. Not very technical compared with the stuff we had ridden over the past week, but trying to hold higher speed through the turns was a new challenge. Fun to have C-Bass join us for a ride, and great to squeeze in one last ride as part of the big road trip.
Good thing I had purchased more padded shorts and baggy shorts yesterday so that I had clean stuff to wear today :)

Biking (Mountain) 2:50:00 [2] 20.0 km (8:30 / km) +858m 7:00 / km

A great technical ride with Phatty right from the door of Phatty and Leanimal's place. Did a long climb up the Fromme climbing trail with some technical bits including a section called "70 metres of suck" that is a minefield of roots but a lot of it can be ridden. Rode down Lepperd, Crinkum Crankum, and Kirkford, with several good steep pitches and some rocky roll offs or wooden features. Headed back up the gravel "Mountain Highway" to Expresso. Headed up to the upper black diamond entrance. Eyed up the two steep drop ins. Attempted the really crazy one, had the line all figured out, but stopped just in time - it was a bit much without a bigger bike and some armour. Rode the other drop in and it was exciting. We then rocked the rest of the trail, lots of hoots and cheers, Phatty was riding awesome. Continued into Dempsey and Penzoil. It had been raining but you hardly noticed in the forest. Just near the end of our ride, things started to seem a little wetter. Popped out of the forest and got soaked on the ride home. A good day. Then hit a big sale at Giant (bike shorts etc for cheap) and stopped by the Arc'Teryx factory outlet where I bought some tights for what the price should be ;)

It has been so great to stop in on these two and the little ones :) so great to hang out, catch up and play together.

In the Lynn Valley with Leanimal. Such a beautiful forest they have near where they live. It was almost too much to take at first while still trying to run - sensory overload. A good pace with lots of ups and downs. Lots of fun chatting all the way.
