CONCUSSION

Nordic Centre with Carbon, Erdem and Patric. Up and across EKG East to the Meadow and up Odyssey. Chose to descend Odyssey (blue) instead of Terminator (black).

Next thing I know, I'm sitting on the ground and people are looking at me and talking to me, telling me not to move or turn my head, while they warn approaching riders that we have a man down. Apparently I knocked myself unconscious for about a minute. I'm trying to figure out where I am, and where on the trail that something caused me to crash. Carbon and the others call 911 and an ambulance comes right into the trails just a short walk below us. A paramedic hikes up and checks me out. We agree that I am okay to walk down to the ambulance, where the Nordic Centre's side-by-side ATV is also there, along with an Alberta Parks truck. I get a ride down to the hospital where they check me out in emerg and my mind starts coming back a little, but still I never regain the few seconds before the crash so I will never know what happened. Based on how I must have hit, I must have lost traction on my front wheel. It looks like I went down fast and forward. Cracked the inside of the helmet a little by the right temple, and pressed the inner harness against the styrofoam hard enough to make a solid impression in the one side. Right knee is scraped and the back of the right shoulder, along with a long dirt smear down the right shoulder. The right hand feels like it took a good slam on the bones of the lateral side, I'm guessing I was still holding the grip when the bike slammed down on this side.

Most of the focus in emerg is about deciding whether I need to go into Calgary for a CT scan for a possible brain bleed. We decide that I don't.

Apparently our CrossFit Games competition recovery diet of ice cream sundaes every night was completely acceptable. Plus several hours of mountain biking each day.

Last day of riding in Squamish. Vince and I took a steady quick pace up the Legacy climb trail to the top of Half Nelson. Another rip down Half Nelson, faster in some spots and connecting a couple of doubles that I haven't connected in the air previously, then not as fast as my fastest on a couple of other spots. Super humid out.
Down Another Man's Gold, then STP, Hoods Connector and Bonsai to ride Somewhere Over There. The approach seemed quicker than last time, not as bad. Rode the first big rock descent into Somewhere Over There which sure sets an exciting tone of the start for the rest of the ride. A good ride, rode everything, but opted for the less severe line around the other big rock descent that looked steep with a loose dusting over top. Done too soon (I think we were about 8 minutes down Somewhere Over There, but the record is about 3 minutes, set by the #9 Enduro racer in the world).
Rode back to the house.

Biking (Mountain) 2:00:00 [3] 21.5 km (5:35 / km)

Just Vince and I today.
Alice Lake, rode Ruoert, Mark My Word and Credit Line. Much nicer to climb 50 Shades of Green instead of Mice and Men.
Rupert was great again, rode the whole thing without stopping or scoping. Hadn't warmed up yet with anything and the first little drop seemed significant, but the next few got me warmed up quickly.
Mark My Word was techy with lots of roots even though there weren't many really big drops. One big rock roll off had 4 entrances. The 4th one looked big but probably wasn't worse than what I did yesterday. Still, I decided I didn't need to chance it... I've had a good trip and don't need to take all the chances. Took door #3 which was still exciting enough.
Credit Line is a blue for a while and then it suddenly switches and earns its black rating.

Now just finished watching the big UCI downhill race from Mont St. Anne, Quebec. Awesome!
