Karl's "man maker" workout (yep, add Karl Augsten (top Canadian at Boston Marathon) to the mix of people we run with in Canmore. Super nice guy, so low key that you wouldn't know how fast he is until you hear his race results which he never mentions)

5 x 3 min hard.
Often we do 8 x 3 min, but this intensity was higher because of running up the long hill on the Georgetown trail at the lower Nordic Centre.
Goal was to hit 9/10 intensity at the end; definitely got there.

Preceded by my own brief warm up, then running from the parking lot to the Georgetown trail start at the bottom of the long hill, and a few strides.

Followed by the jog back to the parking lot, and then pub night with massive slices of pizza at the Bill Warren training centre.

Canmore Trail Culture
This weekend is the 5 Peaks race at the Nordic Centre, so we ran there to give folks a preview of the race course.
Went with the Caffeinated group, led by Joel and Andy. Kept up fine. Got gapped a little going down blue coal chutes but caught up on the climb up Long Road to Ruin.
About an hour into the run, it became apparent that we were running the entire race course, rather than sticking to our usual time of one hour. I had already committed myself to going fast and hard tonight; now add "long". Still it went well.
Then over the Houda's where he was hosting a pre- 5 Peaks BBQ and keg. Tasty, and great socializing.
