Vista day 2. Headed west from the hut and over into the next drainage. Then went south, I think as far as Sundance which is supposedly in the Meadow hut zone.
Some rocks lurking under the snow to dodge up high where the wind has moved snow around. Lower down the coverage became more reliable and the skiing was good. Dropped lower than we originally planned because it was good. Cold at the start but in the far drainage we found spots that didn’t have wind and were in the sun so some of our heavier layers came off for a little while. Felt like we could hang out there all day, but had to face the cold wind again to get back.
Brook tried to lure me with the offer of an extra lap. I wasn’t sure if we would have time and still make it all the way back to the hut in good daylight. Ended up not doing an extra run which was probably smart because it would have us out a little late and still far from the hut, but I’m encouraged that the new knee was back to saying Yes for an extra run possibility.
Skied Revy’s K2 Wayback 106 (172). They are wonderfully easy and straightforward to ski. Big easy sweet spot for balance. Just hop on them and go, no adjustment curve. Really the only criticism might be that they are too predictable and straightforward, no surprises or extra excitement. That said, I wasn’t pushing them too hard because of the fear of rocks under the snow.
Fun to be out with the crew for a full day again :)
