Biking (road) 30:00 [3]
Ride up to school on my beater bike. It's old and heavy, but trusty and a little rusty.

Biking (road) 30:00 [3]
Ride from school to UWMC on my beater. No water bottle cages, just a steady ride for the ages.
Biking (road) 30:00 [3]
Ride home from UWMC on my beater. If you get passed, you can be sure you're in dead last.

Thursday Sep 27

Biking (road) 30:00 [3]
Ride to school on my beater. It's got bar-ends and it always defends.
Biking 30:00 [3]
Ride home on my beater. It's made of chro-molly which allows me to ride with folly.

Wednesday Sep 26

Biking (road) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Jake The Snake
Ride to school. I hit a bump and knocked my BB loose and my cranks froze up. Hand tightened to get going, but looks like some major repairs are in order for Jake :(

First O-loop of the interval course. Felt good running.

Orienteering intervals 4:57 [4]** 0.74 km (6:41 / km)
2nd loop of O-intervals. Made a bit of mistake time on this one, but my running was quick.
Orienteering intervals 4:34 [4]** 0.74 km (6:10 / km)
3rd loop of O-intervals. Also had a slight mistake, but was running good.
Orienteering intervals 9:01 [4]** 1.5 km (6:01 / km)
4th loop of O-intervals. I ran this one pretty well, with little mistake time. The woods were getting a little dark, so it was hard to see the map detail in those areas. I tried to take approx 2min rest between intervals. Good workout and good to get out there and practice with a map again.

Adventure Race race (spanking) 27:20:00 [5]
Another crazy 24hr race. Perhaps, my best 24hr effort out of the races I've done so far. Raced with only Tamara and she did great. I thought we moved well for the whole 24hrs with minimal breaks.

1st Paddle: 3.5hrs, paddled lake cushman counter-clockwise. We had a good start and I was happy with our paddling. I think we were middish to rear of the pack coming off the water.

MTB: Great biking terrain although the race was a little heavy on the bike, but I think Glenn wanted us to see as much territory as we could (even though we couldn't see anything anyway because of the fog). We started out on some very nice singletrack along the N. fork of Sko. river. Then had a pretty good hike a bike on trail up over a saddle. When we arrived CP 9 (the first manned CP on the bike) we were in 8th place, so I think we picked off several teams on our way. We were going back and forth with PPF/Double Trouble pretty much the whole time on the bike. We checked out the bike-whack option after CP 9 (just like everyone else did), but decided to be logical and ride the long way and it paid off. I didn't really have any major nav problems until CP 13 and I thought it was a rather poor control placement for an AR, but we found it after about 1-2 wasted hours. Granted, most of the problem was my fault for not being smart about my nav, but I was pretty tired and was getting lazy and not making good decisions at that point. That was the only major setback and we recovered pretty well. We hiked a good portion of the route to CPs 15 & 16 because we were so saddle sore, but it was certainly very ridable, so we lost a little time there. Overall odometer read 80mi on the bike and took us ~19.5hrs.

2nd Paddle: My arms were really tired, but we got it done just after daylight dawned.

Rogaine: I wished we would have had more time for this section as I think we could have done really well at it. As it was, we had 3hrs to get 5 CPs. We had to run or tails off for pretty much the whole time, but it actually didn't feel to bad to be on my feet. Coming back in I didn't think we were going to make the cutoff, but we somehow sneaked in with about 5min to spare.

Overall great race and I was very proud of how we did and Tamara was super tough. Pretty tough course, tough nav, and great scenery (so I'm told, since I couldn't see through the fog). Actually, I know the scenery is sweet as I have hiked in the Olympics many times in great weather. I will have to head back and ride some of that course when the weather gets good again (like next Aug?). A huge thanks to Glenn, Roger, and Yumay and all the volunteers for their hard work.

Event: 4th Dimension 24h Adventure Race

Wednesday Sep 12

Paddle 2:15:00 [3]
I got my one paddle training session in before the big race. Actually, you may have to go back to last year to find paddling in my training log, yikes. Paddled south from Redondo (sp?) beach with T. Very nice day for a paddle. I know, I should get more paddling in, but it's just so much easier to put on the running shoes and go for a run...

Not a very good run today. My hip flexors are still bothering me. Felt really slow a sluggish today. Hopefully that is gone by the weekend.

Rock Climbing (bouldering) 1:00:00 [3]
Hit up the gym today. Climbed all of the V0's that we didn't get to last time. I felt pretty good, although my strength is pretty low right now.

Thursday Sep 6

Biking (MTB) 3:54:52 [4]22.0 mi (10:40 / mi)
Epic ride. Rode Sun Top lookout by Crystal up 3000ft of fire road and then down the single track. This has to be one of the best rides I've done in WA. Made it up to the lookout in about 1hr 20min. Mt. Rainier was blocked by cloud cover unfortunately. Enjoyed the single track coming down, but was a bit tired by the time I got on Skookum flats, but I still rode it pretty well. Skookum is washed out pretty bad in one spot since the last time I rode it. Good stuff.

Wednesday Sep 5

Road Running 50:00 [4]7.5 mi (6:40 / mi)
Two laps around Green Lake and back home. Guess on time, since I didn't have my watch. Some fast peeps at Green tonight, I think maybe club NW runners doing a workout or something? Lots of people at the lake.

Biking (road) 30:00 [2]
Ride back home from UWMC still in a downpour... My cell phone got wet in my pack and now does not work and my clothes are not waterproof. Moral of the story, when living in Seattle get good rain gear dummy.
Road Running 38:42 [3]5.5 mi (7:01 / mi)
Easy run over to GL and around.

Monday Sep 3

Orienteering (Hike) 3:30:00 [2]8.0 mi (26:15 / mi) +1230m 11:02 / km

Sunday Sep 2

Road Running 38:44 [4]5.5 mi (7:03 / mi)
Ran up and over to green and around. Felt pretty good after the hike yesterday.

Saturday Sep 1

Orienteering (Hike) 5:30:00 [2]18.0 mi (18:20 / mi)
Hiked up to flapjack lakes in the Olys. Got started around 3:00 so had to hike the final bit with the headlamps. Was a great hike, will have to revisit it and hit the divide and probably black and white lakes next time.
