Saturday Dec 8

Road Running race 18:38 [5]5 km (3:44 / km) vdot: 54.1
shoes: NB 720
Ran at a local 5k race up in Arlington put on by one of the HS XC kids for his senior project. Placed 5th with a pretty slow time, but it was fun. The course was a bit frosty. I was running right with the Everett CC guys most of the race, so it's nice to know I can still hang even when I'm in terrible shape.

Friday Dec 7

Road Running race 6:31 [5]1.2 mi (5:25 / mi) vdot: 55.3
shoes: NB 720
Ran with CJ's 6th period class on the XC course. Smoked them: he, he, he, he. It was fun to try and motivate the kids.
Road Running 20:00 [3]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
shoes: NB 720
Cooldown: Easy running around the park and Hick's lake. The lake is swollen to about 2 times the normal area, so much of the park is under water including the parking lot. Crazy.

Sunday Dec 2

Adventure Race race 6:30:00 [3]
BEAST Finale 2007: Raced with CJ in her first longer AR. Miserable weather conditions. I would say it was probably the second worst weather of any AR I have done behind the first ever Wicked race at Mt. Hood a couple of winters ago.

We started out on bike and it was a pretty massive pack for the start even after the Lemond's start. I was pretty amazed at how unprepared teams were for the first clue at the first CP. CJ and I were near the rear of the pack after the initial run, but I had the clue memorized for the first CP so I didn't really even need to stop and we just kept on moving. I'd guess we moved up to around 5th place after CP 1. We just kept plugging away and teams went by, but it was ok, it was a long race. The first MTB loop was pretty uneventful and I was able to tow quite a bit and we made it back to the TA in about 2hrs. Then we had a quick special test where I pushed CJ down and up a short hill on a sled. Then it was back on the bikes for loop #2, which took us on more elevation and more single track than the first loop. We completed the second in ~2.5hrs. I had one slight nav error on the second loop that probably cost about 5-10min. Then we were off on the trek for another 10 cps on the wooded trails. Great CPs and no problems with the nav. Completed the trek in just over 2hrs just before sun-down. Overall, good race even in the muddy sloppy cold conditions. Under good weather, I think we might have been about 1hr faster. It's always fun to get out there and compete with the crazy folk though.
